This Thursday we will be having a movie for students while parents participate in an iReady night. The grade level with the most families attending will earn extra recess!
A Note from Mr. Archbold-
On Wednesday, December 3rd at 5:50pm your student will be performing "Walking in a Kinder Wonderland!" in the Savannah Elementary Cafeteria. Students should arrive no later than 5:50pm through the cafeteria doors so they can get in their place on stage. They will be singing holiday songs and performing a scarf dance. I would recommend students arrive in pajamas (winter themed or normal). This should only take 15 minutes of your time and there will be a 10-minute time period after the performance for you to take pictures.
I cannot wait for you to hear them and see all their hard work! The late night Bookfair will also run in the library the same night from 5-7pm. It will be a fun filled night for everyone.
Please remember to send a reusable water bottle and healthy snack every day. It's important for our students to stay hydrated and have energy to fuel their brains. Snack is only 10 minutes, so please send something small and quick. The Kinder Team is kindly asking for NO candy or juice (sports drinks)/milk beverages in the classroom. If they pack a lunch they're welcome to drink the juice/sports drink or milk at lunch, but ONLY water is permitted in the classrooms.
Some of our lunch procedures have changed this year. In the past, students were only permitted to purchase ice cream or a treat/snack on Fridays. Now, they have the option to purchase snacks and/or ice cream any day of the week, if they have money on their School Cafe account. While this is a parent preference and we respect your decision, we wanted to inform you of our observations over the last month or two. Some students will purchase multiple snack type items and eat those first before eating their lunch (from home or school). They will fill up on the snacks/treats and then be full or run out of time to eat anything with nutritional value. This can impact their work stamina and ability to sustain energy throughout the remainder of the day.
If you were unaware of this, you do have the ability to login to their account and set purchase restrictions by day of the week, number per day, and/or a spending amount by day, week, or month. You can also look at the purchase history details to see how the money on the account is being spent. Again, this is more to inform everyone in case you weren't aware.

Please be sure to send a light jacket/sweater/hoodie with students as the temperatures are changing. It's still cool in the mornings when we go out for recess. You will also probably want to change their backup clothes since most students still have shorts from the start of the school. You can send in an extra pair of pants to add to their bag in their cubby or switch them out. Please reach out to your teacher to inquire about the preferred system in each classroom.
SHOES WITH LACES
We need your help...PLEASE! We are definitely supporters of fostering independence and teaching students self help skills! Unfortunately, we are spending a lot of time tying shoe laces throughout the day which takes time away from learning and being vigilant to the safety of all students. In addition, the germs that are accumulated from laces being drug on the ground outside, through bathrooms, hallways, and the cafeteria which are then transferred to their hands as they try to learn how to tie them as well as ours is quite gross.
You can help us in a few ways. First, teach them to learn how to tie their own shoes at home. We wish our schedules permitted us to teach them at school as well, but it doesn't. Secondly, possibly wear shoes that don't require them being tied until they're able to do so. There are also options of lace covers or locks to help.
Student Birthdays
We are happy to celebrate your child's birthday at school. We allow parents to send birthday trinkets for their child's class if they want, however, WE DO NOT ALLOW BIRTHDAY TREATS or FOODS. Cupcakes/cake/candy etc. compete with healthy meals and snacks and may affect students with food allergies. We will not serve them if they are brought in.
This will be our Specials schedule for the 2nd 9 weeks.
If you are wanting to join your students for lunch, volunteer in the classroom, chaperone field trips, or attend graduation at the end of the year, you will need to complete a background check. It takes a couple of weeks to go through so make sure you fill it out now!
To report an absence, you will need to fill out the information in the link below. https://forms.dentonisd.org/Forms/absence-note
If a student is picked up after a field trip, and / or 50 minutes or more before dismissal, it is considered a part- day absence, and parents will receive a call from the district informing them that their student has been absent for parts of the day.
Unfortunately, without a valid reason, the student will not be excused for that time out of school.
