I can
I can envision what is happening in a text.
I can look at pictures, remember the story, and then story tell to read.
This week we are starting a brand new unit on sharing reading. In this unit we will continue to support your students in paying attention to words in the book to develop pre-reading skills. Students will continue practicing concepts about print including reading from left to right, one word after another, and noticing how many words are on a page. We will also be learning new high-frequency words in phonics that we will then transfer over to reading. These high-frequency words will help students read pattern books as well as quickly identify these words in texts that do not include a pattern.
I can write Show & Tell Books, add longer labels, and write using snap words.
This week, we are focusing on writing Show & Tell Books that describe important parts of our favorite places by breaking our books up into different parts. While writing these books, we are discussing how to use longer labels in our illustrations to describe our drawings, and how to use snap words (the, like, my, on, and) in those labels and sentences.
To support this skill at home, you can encourage your writer to add labels with multiple words to their drawings, and to use snap words to help them label and write about their illustrations.
I can identify and describe 2D shapes including squares, rectangles, circles and triangles.
This week we will start our geometry unit. The unit will include identifying and describing 2D and 3D shapes as well as being able to classify and sort them.
See below for additional information and some ways to incorporate learning at home.
I can identify a government leader and explain why we have them.
This week we are learning the importance of rules in different places. Throughout the week we will be discussing rules we have at home, in our classroom, and community, and why they are important.
