I can
I can use words I know in a snap to figure out a pattern.
This week we are continuing to work on finding patterns in our books to help us read. Some of the sight words that we are finding in our pattern books include the following words:
I, like, me, my, the, like, a, can, to, we, see
To support this at home, you can write simple sentences like "I see the ______." and students can continue the story. This will reinforce not only reading, but also what we have been working on in writing.
I can start my sentence with a capital letter and I can stretch out my words to write every sound I hear.
This week we are learning to start our sentences with capital letters and identifying when a capital letter is needed. We are continuing to practice stretching out our words so we can write a letter for every sound we hear.
To support this skill at home, you can encourage your writer to add sentences/words to their drawing and to use capital letters only at the beginning of their sentence, or at the beginning of names. Additionally, you can encourage your writer to use what they know about letter sounds to add labels and sentences to their drawings by stretching out the word and listening for each sound.
I can identify and describe 3D shapes including spheres, cubes, cones, and cylinders.
This week we will continue our geometry unit but our focus will be on 3D shapes. We are learning about the interchangeable vocabulary like edges or sides, vertices or corners and faces.
This week we are learning about our 3D shapes: spheres, cubes, cones, and cylinders.
To support this at home, you can have your child go on a shape hunt around the house or as you're driving ask them what shapes they see.
I can identify that light is a form of energy and describe what causes shadows.
This week, we are exploring the world around us and specifically noticing how light impacts what we can see in our lives. We are observing light in various forms (sunlight, flashlights, etc.), and making claims about how light affects what we can/cannot see.
