Principal's Message

The play structure reopened today! Monkey bars were removed on one of the structures and will be replaced with something else soon. The students were very excited We will also be trying something new with 1st and 2nd graders beginning Monday:  1st graders will line up for lunch at 11:15 (their normal time) and 2nd graders will play first.  At 11:30, 2nd graders will be called in to line up for lunch and 1st graders will be able to start playing.  After 2nd graders have finished eating they will go play.  I am hoping this may help with playground issues and give each grade some dedicated time on the play structures.

Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated next week!  We have some fun dress up days planned each day next week, but more importantly we will be reenforcing the ideas that Red Ribbon Week reminds kids to be safe, be happy, be brave, and to keep kids drug free.

Thank you to our PTO for arranging a fun community event: Trunk or Treat!  This is a fun event for Bringhurst students where they can go from trunk (or table) to "trick or treat".  The event runs from 5:00-6:15 p.m. in our school parking lot.  The campus will not be open.  Students are free to come in costume!  If you are interested in participating and decorating your trunk or table, please sign up here.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be here soon.  If you have not scheduled a time to meet with your child's teacher, please do so.  This is a dedicated time for you and your child's teacher to discuss your child's progress so far.

Have a wonderful rest of October!

Mrs. Johanna White

Principal

GATE Identification Process

Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) provides support for gifted and talented (GATE) students through differentiated instruction. We believe that differentiated instruction not only serves the needs of our exceptional students, but also enhances the entire educational program for all students.

In February of 2020, funding for the CogAT testing was cut as part of the budget savings. While the CogAT testing has been the primary means of qualifying students for GATE identification we are now in the process of identifying an alternative way of identifying students. There will not be a test for GATE eligibility given this year. We are currently revising the GATE identification process and handbook. FUSD will have an update by Spring 2023.

During the 2022/2023 school year we will continue to identify 5th and 6th grade students who were not identified in an earlier grade. These students may be considered for GATE identification through the professional judgement process. Teachers and/or parents may nominate a student. A completed nomination form must be submitted by the teacher or parent to the school Principal by December 15, 2022. Principals will set up meetings with the teacher, student, and parent to discuss the student’s eligibility for GATE identification. In June 2023, parents, teachers, and students who applied for professional judgement will be informed of their child’s GATE eligibility.

Halloween Parade

We are excited to announce our first Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31st at 10:00 a.m.  Students will be parading on the track.  Parents and families are welcome to watch the parade from outside of the gates on either side of the park: Wisdom Rd., S. Grimmer, or Insight Way.  Parents and families will not be allowed to watch from inside of the gates on school campus in order to keep our students safe. Thank you for your understanding.

Students who wish to wear costumes to school must make sure they fit the following criteria:

Costumes do NOT interfere with the learning of themselves or others

Costumes must be appropriate for school.

Weapons and Masks will not be allowed at school.

Adults (school staff) will NOT be able to help students with costumes.

Students can change after the parade if they wish.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Glass Containers for Lunch

Please send your child's lunch to school in containers other than glass.  We have had many instances when the containers are dropped and the glass breaks.  This is very dangerous with the number of students eating lunch and walking around on campus. Thank you.

Lost and Found Items

If you are looking for an item that belongs to your child: jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc.  Please check our lost and found area right past the bike racks at the front  of campus.  We will be donating any items still here at the end of October.  Thank you!

Bullying Prevention Month

October is Bully Prevention Month.  All month long we are talking about ways to refusing to be bullied and how to report if someone is bullying.  It is important to note that not every incident is bullying.  Many of our students play very rough and "play fight" or "rough house" often.  We are doing our best to remind students to play safely, keep bodies to our self and to be safe.  When bullying is reported to me I will investigate with the students involved.  Consequences will be given to those who are found being mean, rude or bullying others.  The slide show will be presented to all classes next week during Red Ribbon Week.  Please help us remind students that play fighting is NOT safe.  Others often get hurt even though that was not the intenion.  Students should keep all parts of their body to themselves.
