My Google Classrooms are a hot mess. What are my options for organization?

Classwork: Topics

Generally, you'll want to think about using the Topics feature (see the article to the left for a couple of different ways to use them!), but the main thing you'll want to consider is your audience.

Audience

Is it 4th graders or Economics students that are accessing your Classroom? Getting some input/feedback from your students about which changes to your Google Classroom would be beneficial for them is a great way to give students some ownership and improve your practice.

I'm looking for more resources to teach students cyber ethics and safety for school and home. Can you help?

Curriculum

The district recommends Common Sense Media's newly revamped K-12 Digital Citizenship Curriculum for all educators. Additionally, Google's Be Internet Awesome has some great educator activities, an online game testing mastery and more.

For any resource you choose, make sure to integrate the topics below into your practice and instruction.

Instructional Priorities - Tech Tools and Strategies

#1 - Learning targets are embedded explicitly throughout instruction.

Learning Target Essentials

Effective feedback begins with clearly defined and clearly communicated learning goals. (Marzano, The New Art and Science of Teaching. 2017)

In order for students to make use of effective feedback, a necessary pre-condition is that there is a progression of knowledge available to them and the students know where they are on that progression.

Beginning Steps towards Proficiency Scales

It's helpful to truly clarify the actions that students are expected to do when constructing your learning targets. Use Marzano's New Taxonomy (embedded below) to help identify the levels of complexity in these actions. This will help begin the process of creating proficiency scales so students know the progression of knowledge (the scale) and can help them decide where they are on that progression.
