Instructional Priorities - Tech Tools and Strategies

Each week I'll be adding tech tools or strategies for some of the FCSD Instructional Priorities. Check back each week for new content!

#1 - Learning targets are embedded explicitly throughout instruction.

#2 - Teacher uses a system/process for checking all students' progress toward learning target(s) at multiple points in the lesson. (FOCUS for 2018-19)

Geocaching

With the return of tolerable temperatures outside - why not take the opportunity to have students use their phones for something that uses a knowledge of mathematics and close reading to collaborate around finding Geocaches.

There are several Geocaches in Fulton, but anyone can create a cache following the international guidelines and submit it for others to find. Finding a Geocache requires logical thinking, an understanding of absolute and relative location and close reading. Creating a Geocache involves all of of these AND planning, construction and clever writing.

Teachers can create an account for their class - students under 13 aren't allowed to have accounts - or if the student is 13-18 with parent permission they can assist them in creating their own accounts.

#6 -Students and adults use positive, supportive and growth-mindset oriented language when talking about themselves, others and school.

#7 -Literacy development is a central component of the instruction observed.
