The DLI Newsletter has gone bi-weekly. The next newsletter will be published on February 27 (delayed due to February break).

Gmail & Calendar Switchover

On Friday February 15th, all FCSD Email will be switched from Outlook / Exchange to Google Gmail. Email through Outlook will not be operational after 5pm 2/15. The FCSD Technology Department is currently working to migrate all email to your new Gmail account which will be viewable and complete over the next several weeks. We anticipate that most email will migrate successfully. However, it is likely that some loss will occur as a result of the transition. Prior to the transition, you will receive several reminders directly from the Technology Department with instructions and guidance. Please be patient during the transition as this is a major undertaking that will provide for a more efficient means of district-wide communication.

FAQ’s

  • Email transition date – February 15th at 5pm
  • In order to access Email after 2/15 at 5pm, you will need a Google account. If you do not have an account or do not have your login credentials, please contact the Helpdesk (x2914).
  • Email from your Outlook / Exchange account will migrate to your Gmail account over the next several weeks. Please expect that most will migrate but not all. You will still have the ability to view old email in Exchange / Outlook but will not be able to send or receive e-mail from this application.
  • Multiple opportunities for training in Gmail and the Google GSuite environment are being offered to assist all staff and faculty in transitioning. Please see the flow chart below for training opportunities. (note: Lanigan's trainings were rescheduled to February 7 due to the snow day)
  • Please review training materials provided through the DLI newsletter and FCSD Technology Website.
  • Email addresses will NOT change. You will retain your fulton.cnyric.org address. This domain will be changed over the summer of 2019 to fultoncsd.org. Additional information regarding this change will be provided prior to the change.
  • The Gmail interface looks and operates differently than Outlook / Exchange. It is highly recommended that if you are not familiar with Gmail, make arrangements to participate in training offerings or contact Dan Sherman or Dom Lisi.
  • Any questions – Please contact the Helpdesk

Phoenix to Host Edcamp Conference

People will be coming from all around the northern/central NY area. The event takes place on Thursday, February 21st from 8-12. (Yes we know that is over the break).

It’s an informal PD day that can get you thinking about what you do with your content as well as student engagement.

Some people have asked, what is an Edcamp? There are several videos that explain the idea of Edcamp linked to the Edcamp website found below. Some topics could be Advanced literacy & creating passionate readers. Google classroom & Chrome extensions. Digital literacy & digital citizenship. Digital formative assessments.

The main idea is that you are part of the discussion and not forced to sit through a presentation that doesn’t relate to what you do. We have some great sponsors and will be giving away some cool SWAG! Check out the site, then sign up.
