Your Questions, Our Answers (FAQ)

How will people email us after the switch to Gmail during February break?

We will be switch over to Gmail from Outlook as our email client (what you use to access your email). Some things to keep in mind:

  • Your email address will NOT change (ie. user@fulton.cnyric.org)
  • All new email will start arriving in Gmail after February break.
  • Unlike the "Outlook for the Web" interface that can be difficult to use, Gmail has the same interface no matter where you access in the world which will make access even easier.

Exploring the Technology Integration Matrix (TIM)

Each week, we'll highlight either a practice video from the TIM website or lessons from Fulton and attempt to assess where it falls on the Technology Integration Matrix.

Each week we will be highlighting a different part of the Technology Integration Matrix.

When attempting to align teacher practice to the Technology Integration Matrix certain guiding questions can help in deciding what level of technology integration a particular lesson has as well as it's impact on meaningful learning environments.

  • To what extent do the students have direct access to technology tools?
  • Who is making decisions about which technologies to use and when to use them? The teacher, the students, or both?
  • Do the students have the ability to choose among multiple technology tools and apply them to meaningful learning activities?
  • What questions would you have for the teacher about his or her decisions about how technology is integrated in this lesson?
  • What changes to this lesson might change its TIM profile?
  • What suggestions would you have for this teacher about this lesson?

G-Suite Apps & Chrome Highlights

Extensions and Chrome Apps on Student Chromebooks

Secondary students now have access to install a vetted group of Extensions and Chrome Apps on the student Chromebooks. Elementary students will have this ability soon. Stay tuned for more details.

The FCSD Chrome Web Store already contains several extensions that are currently paid for by the district including, Read & Write for Chrome and EquatIO.

How Students Access

Students can go to the "FCSD" bookmarks folder in the upper left hand-corner and access the 'FCSD Chrome Web Store'. From there they can choose which extension or app to install.

If they want to uninstall an app or extension, they simply right-click that extension in the upper right hand corner and select 'Remove from Chrome" or right-click the app in their app drawer and select 'Uninstall'.

How Teachers Get an Extension or App listed in the FCSD Chrome Web Store for Students; Request for Review

Teachers need to be using the extension or app while fully exploring the features from their own account prior to filling out the application. Data on use and impact with students and due diligence in confirming the reliability of the tool as well as the potential possibility for abuse must be provided by the teacher as part of the application process. Incomplete applications will result in delays or possible denial.

The application is also to be used for requesting a review of any service/installed software for purchase by the district (licenses, etc.).
