Quarter 2 Focus
2nd Quarter represents a deep dive into the circumstances that led to the founding of settlements in North America and the challenges and opportunities faced by settlers with the question: What pushes and/or pulls people to a new place?

With a focus on vocabulary such as:
Colonist
Democratic
Mayflower Compact
Monarchy
Representative government
Colony / Settlement
This unit could include a study of the Dear America Book Journey to the New World: The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple an historical fiction account of the Mayflower. Primary source exploration could include selections from William Bradford's History of the Plymouth Settlement and History Smashers: The Mayflower.
