In the third quarter fourth graders continue to practice the skills they have been developing and shift in focus somewhat to comparing and contrasting themes, point of view, and ideas in multiple texts. For novel studies students might have the opportunity to engage in One Book, One School, or read texts like: The War that Saved My Life

Walking with Miss Millie or books from the I Survived series.

Fourth graders will continue a focus of summarizing/note taking and inquiry and focus heavily on opinion writing during the third quarter. With opinion writing, students will gain an understanding of how to use the C-E-R model of writing to make claims in Science and construct arguments in Social Studies.
