QUarter 2

Standards and Resources

Q2 Reading

Reading

During second quarter students have the opportunity to branch out in reading to explore more in depth skills like theme and central idea and how an author uses things like word choice and structure to develop meaning. Second quarter also presents an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary novel studies with Owl in the Shower and The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple. Students might also participate in the Global Read Aloud, study the novel Out of My Mind or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Q2 Writing and Language

Writing

Fourth graders in second quarter continue writing routinely over time across all disciplines through summary, note taking and inquiry. Additionally, they focus on more in depth informative and explanatory writing that can be used in both Science and Social Studies.
