At Forest Gate Community school RE is a compulsory subject.
RE an extraordinary subject that allows you to explore a wide range of complex and controversial issues, such as extremism, divorce, euthanasia, explicit and indirect discrimination along with many other issues.
Through your writing tasks, you will analyse both religious and non-religious texts, develop the ability to infer and explore a diverse collection of teachings, laws and opinions. Throughout the course, you will expand on your ability to use a variety of high level words and improve your writing skills.
Most importantly it will give you a better understanding of the unique and complex world that you live in.
You will study and prepare for three exams which will all contribute to your overall RE grade at GCSE:
Component 1: Religious, philosophical and ethical studies in the modern world - 2hr paper
Component 2: Study of Christianity - 1hr paper
Component 3: Study of a world faith: Islam - 1hr paper
At a higher level, religious studies can be taken as an A level or degree and has links with subjects such as Philosophy, History and Sociology.
