Design and Technology will prepare you to participate confidently and successfully in an increasingly technological world.
The course offers an opportunity for you to identify and solve real problems by designing and making products or systems in a wide range of contexts. Design and Technology will develop your interdisciplinary skills, and your capacity for imaginative, innovative thinking, creativity and independence.
As a fundamental part the course, you will design and make products, but you will also learn the process of iterative design so that you are always questioning and evaluating things. You will study a range of design and technology principles to gain awareness and learn from wider influences on Design and Technology including historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic factors.
Students who choose D&T are inquisitive about everything around them. They have a thirst to be both creative and inventive.
The Design & Technology GCSE is not an easy option, as it will require dedication and an ability to complete work during ones own time outside of normal in class lessons.
There are plenty of career paths! And we’re not kidding. Design and Technology can set you up for a career in a wide variety of industries such as fashion, engineering, architecture, information technology, careers in hospitality, and even education.
Popular careers for people with design and technology qualifications include: fashion designer, tailor, product designer, architect, software engineer, civil engineer, carpenter and graphics designer.
