English Language gives you superpowers. You will have the power to decipher what you read by exploring writers’ viewpoints and perspectives.
Through the study of English Language, you will also learn to decode and examine the world around you while enhancing your own written and oral skills. Through the spoken language endorsement, you will also be given the opportunity to develop your speaking and listening skills and speak about a topic you are passionate about. Not only does this subject enhance your written skills but also empowers you to challenge others’ perspectives too!
Studying Literature is a passport to infinite worlds. Literature helps stretch our imaginations, whilst also giving us a better understanding of the world around us. Exploring literature forces us to explore empathy - to understand the perspectives and stories of people who, on the surface, may be vastly different to ourselves.
Discussing and debating some of the greatest works in English cultural history allows you to access conversations that have been taking place for centuries and that continue to dominate our modern culture.
You will study Fiction and Non-Fiction texts from 19th, 20th and 21st century.
You will also learn how to write narrative and descriptive pieces as well as newspaper and magazine articles, letters and blogs.

You will be examined across two papers:
Paper 1 Exploration of Creative Reading and Writing (50%)
Paper 2 Writers’ viewpoints and perspectives (50%)
The course also includes a Spoken Language endorsement where students are assessed on their ability to listen, communicate and engage with others in discussion

Studying English Language opens up a world of opportunities as all professional jobs require you to have a good pass in this subject as a minimum.
In doing so, you will be able to pursue a career in the industry of your choice, including journalism, publishing, advertising, education and training, counselling, nursing and social services
