Maths is a core subject at Forest Gate Community School that all students will study.
The learning of Mathematics is a critical subject whereby pupils are equipped with skills of problem solving, reasoning and higher order thinking. In learning Mathematics students will:
acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context.
The schemes of learning are broken down into 10 key components which can be monitored through the DPR.
The assessments will cover the following content areas:
Number
Algebra
Ratio, proportion and rates of change
Geometry and measures
Probability
Statistics
You will study and prepare for three exam papers. These will be from two tiers: Higher and Foundation.
Paper 1: Non Calculator - 90 minutes
Paper 2: Calculator - 90 minutes
Paper 3: Calculator - 90 minutes
Scientific calculator
Geometry set - protractor, ruler, compass, pencil and pen
These can be purchased at school.
