Throughout your GCSE, you will learn how to design visual products and pieces of work conveying information, ideas, meaning and emotions in response to a given or self-defined brief.
Areas of study include graphics, illustration, 3D, textiles, painting, printing, sculpture, photography, installation art and mixed media. Pupils will be able to experiment with lots of different materials and new techniques during this course.
If you find an exam hall situation stressful, Art is ideal for you. Your portfolio makes up 60% of your grade and includes all your classwork and homework.
Externally set assignment/project make up 40% of your grade with a two day practical time allowance to create your final piece (in the classroom).
GCSE Art students need to be consistent in their work approach. As all your work is included it is a subject, you cannot 'wing it' in year 11.
Consistency is the key, as well as working to deadlines. You will need a huge amount of self dedication, discipline and the ability to work independently.
If you are a pupil who struggles sitting focused for a double lesson, this is not the subject for you. However if you love spending a Saturday morning doing crafts for hours and have a good eye for detail, patience, a passion for drawing and writing, this is for you.
