Languages are highly valued by employers and universities. Some universities require a GCSE language in order to study certain degree courses such as English and Law, and there is shortage of languages in careers such as engineering and finance.
At FGCS you will have to study the language you started in Y7.
You will build on what you studied since year 7, covering topics such as:
friends and family
local region and holidays
special occasions
school, jobs and the environment
You will also get to study films and do other project-based work.
Most students will have been studying their language for at least two years before they embark on their GCSE.
Although there are no special requirements, this course will particularly suit students who are curious about the world around them, have a passion for communication and enjoy reading and writing.
Language graduates have the highest employment rates and you can earn up to 20% more if you have an additional language.
Career paths include journalism, the diplomatic service, international sales & marketing, engineering and finance.
