A vector is a directed line segment, which has both magnitude (length) and direction (angle). The directed line segment has an initial point P and a terminal point Q.
Component form of a vector describes a vector by its x and y components, as if the vector is placed with its initial point at the origin.
The vector representation is in standard position. If the initial point is fixed at (0, 0), then the vector can be uniquely defined by the terminal point.
Magnitude is simply the length of the vector. It is denoted with vertical bars around the name of the vector, such as ||v||. Direction is the angle the vector is pointing. To help determine the direction of a vector, use the component form of a vector to identify which quadrant the vector lies in.
