Take a ruler or other straight edge and draw a line parallel to the y-axis for any value of x. If the vertical line intersects the graph more than once for any value of x then the graph is not a function.
For Domain you are looking at what x-values the graph covers.
For Range you are looking at what y-values the graph covers.
A Function represents a special relationship where each input (x) has a single output (y).
For each value in the domain, there is only one corresponding value in the range.
All elements in the domain must be used.
When graphed, it passes the Vertical Line Test for every x value.
These rules apply to all functions.
Each change to the parent function will transform the graph.
