Developing a comprehensive intern plan is crucial for providing a positive and enriching experience for interns. Clearly defining the goals and objectives of the program along with understanding what tasks and projects interns will be involved in will help create a structured and positive experience that benefits both the interns and your organization. This will also help the interns to see how they are contributing effectively to the overall goals of the organization.
Department Managers Develop Plan Together - This is the biggest time commitment
Putting a plan in place is integral to success for the intern.
Try to plan 1-2 projects or initiatives in each department.
Clarify if the intern will be provided lots of experiences or if the intern will dig into 1-2 primary projects.
The plan provides structure but can be adjusted throughout the internship depending on the intern's interests and goals.
Be flexible/adaptable - Interns are students who may not know what they want since they are likely still trying to figure out what they want to do.
Pre-Start Call with Intern & Department Managers
This is an opportunity to review the workplan and confirm the interns areas of interest and what they want to learn in each department.

Utilize your team to help support the intern's learning experience.
If you are part of a smaller department or team, you may not have as many team members to help support so you must plan accordingly.
