Student Loan Interest, Educator Expenses, & Alimony Paid

The following includes information on how to report Student Loan Interest, Educator Expenses, and Alimony Paid (not received) using our system. This is not to be used as tax advice.

Add Student Loan Interest, Educator Expenses Page, & Alimony Paid Page

There are two ways to add the Student Loan Interest, Educator Expenses, & Alimony Paid page to your return.


Option 1. 

Use the Search for a Form bar in the top left to search for and add "Student Loan Interest, Educator Expenses, & Alimony Paid" page to your return.


Option 2.

Look for your Forms In Return listed on the left. Scroll down and select "Federal" drop-down and then select "Adjustments".  Then, scroll down to the bottom of the Federal Adjustments and click "Student Loan Interest, Educator Expenses, & Alimony Paid" page to add to your return. 

Student Loan Interest 

Here is where you enter the amount from Form 1098-E; Student Loan Interest


The IRS provides a tool to help determine if you can deduct interest paid on a student loan.

Educator Expenses 

The Educator Expense deduction is claimed on line 23 of Form 1040 (PDF) or line 16 of Form 1040A (PDF).

A eligible Educator can deduct up to $250 ($500 if married filing jointly and both spouses are eligible educators, but not more than $250 each) of un-reimbursed trade or business expenses. 


Alimony Paid

Child Support Payments do not qualify as Alimony Paid.


When claiming the deduction for amount of Alimony paid, the SSN of the person the alimony was paid to is also required. Further, states such as CA require the last name of the person receiving the alimony in order to claim the deduction on the state tax return. You will be unable to claim this deduction in our system without including any additional information required.
