Scholarships & Financial Aid

The Starting Point

It is never too early to begin looking for available scholarships. Many students search throughout their junior year to find scholarships for which they may be eligible. Continued searching and applying for individual awards occur throughout senior year.

Students are strongly encouraged to pay close attention to scholarships offered by their prospective colleges. These will usually require additional steps beyond the application, such as an essay, interview, or audition. Students also should be attentive to local scholarships offered through FHPS or local organizations. These will be listed in announcements, on our website, and in Naviance. Finally, students may also set up accounts with a national scholarship search engine (see below) to learn about a wide variety of scholarships for which they may be qualified.

Most scholarship committees consider some combination of the following criteria:

  1. Student GPA

  2. Student standardized test score, usually ACT or SAT, a select few use PSAT/NMSQT

  3. Special skill or involvement (music, arts, athletics, work or community involvement)

  4. Demonstrated financial need, students with lower financial stature are given higher priority
