Is an Associate Professor at both the School of Science and the School of Medicine at the Universidad de la República (UDELAR) in Uruguay. She earned her PhD from the School of Science, where she investigated post-transcriptional gene regulation in Trypanosoma cruzi, a protozoan parasite notable for its lack of transcriptional control. Her work centered on RNA-binding proteins and mechanisms of gene expression regulation. She later completed postdoctoral training at the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI-NIH), where she focused on cancer stem cells and gene expression profiling, which marked her transition into cancer biology.
Her research currently spans three main areas: the role of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in cancer, gene regulation in T. cruzi parasites, and the development of molecular genetic diagnostics for human diseases, including oncological conditions.
