Transitioning from Adolescence: Alternatives to Guardianship: When a child with a disability is about turn 18, there is the question of how to support them as adults. This video covers the options to supported decision-making, introducing alternatives to guardianship, which provide more opportunities for autonomy and empower the adolescent to make their own decisions even with a formalized support system. An example of a support team is provided, though it is encouraged all families consider the unique needs of each adolescent and discuss options early on.
