Internal Monitoring: The Why

The Internal Monitoring (IM) team will meet regularly (i.e. monthly) to examine completed IEPs and ETRs for compliance components and provide written feedback and suggestions to staff. The team will provide regular updates on compliance areas that are of concern to the district leadership team. All special education documents must be 100% compliant in all areas. Each district should establish an IM team with written procedures for how and when meetings are conducted, how data will be collected, analyzed and shared, and how the data will inform tiered professional development needs.

IM teams should establish membership, purpose, goals, and procedures and this should be reviewed regularly. The Terms of Reference tool is one way to do this. There is a sample document in the resources section
