How to determine instructional implications

Each individual evaluator of the ETR team will provide suggestions for supports and services that the child may need to access and progress in the general curriculum using the needs mentioned in the Educational Needs section of their Part 1 form. They will indicate the types of instructional strategies needed to accelerate the child’s progress in the general education curriculum. They may also indicate classroom accommodations that may be necessary for success.

The key is to make sure the instructional implications are tied to the needs and are specific and targeted. In order to be eligible for special education services, the team must indicate needs and specially designed supports and services that have an educational and instructional impact. Each instructional implications section from each Part 1 needs to be included in the Part 2 summary. This not only guides the ETR team with eligibility determination but also the IEP team in determining what specially designed supports and services will be included.
