Rehearsal and Practice
Each One Teach One
This activity was originally included in Learning From Mistakes and still includes that purpose. I am listing it in both categories.
You will each receive a page with an assessment question on it. In our first step, you will group with the same colors (same question). After time to become experts at that question, we will begin mixing. You will eventually become an expert at each of the four problems.
Fact or Fib
We will use Geometry for our Fact or Fib activity. Collect your Fact or Fib cards and get ready to play.
Jig Saw "Sell"
Participants will organize in their home groups of 4 and complete page 1.
Participants will now organize in expert groups for research before returning to their home groups to share new knowledge.
Mystery Bag
We have a few different Mystery Bags in the room. For each group, take turns choosing one item from the bag and list as many attributes as you can. Once all items have been "unbagged", try to find some things they may have in common. Are there any interesting facts about your Mystery Bag of items?
Mystery Sequence
Each group will have a different Mystery Sequence to work on. Cut apart your cards and place them in the correct order.
You will share your sequence with the room and explain the process.
Play it! Say it!
For this activity, each participant will have cards for add, subtract, multiple, and divide. The Slides will present a word problem and when I say "Play it!" each participant will slap down which application is needed for that problem.
When you hear "Say it!" explain to your partner why you chose that application.
Secret Coding...
We will use Decimal Duty for this activity.
Look over your copy and code it as follows:
+ code 1 easy question with a plus sign - you are super confident you can answer it correctly
✔ code 1 confusing question with a checkmark - you think you can figure it out
- code 1 difficult question with a minus sign - you may need help on this one
Sticker Stackers
(I modified this activity so that students would not be wearing the stickers.)
After reviewing key terms, each student will be given a card of key terms for themselves and stickers for their partners who correctly describe/define a key term. Music can be used for movement and paper/rock/scissors can be used for who will choose and describe the term. If correct, the partner gives them a sticker for that term (and places it on their card).
Here is link to the cards I used.
Stop, Plop, and Roll
We will use a passage from the 2019 7th Grade Reading Test for this activity titled Keep Calm and Read On
One student will read the first paragraph, then the second student will roll the die and together they will answer the corresponding question. Now they will switch roles. The second student will read the next paragraph and the first student will roll the die.
Continue until all six questions have been answered. (You won't need the entire text.)
Summary Salad
For this activity, we will use Thank You Maam
Read the passage with your partner. Create a summary of this passage using 6 note cards.
Join another pair and mix up your summary cards. Choose the best 6 note cards from the group and create one summary with them.
Tour of Knowledge
We are going to use Jamboard for a digital Tour of Knowledge.
Join me with this link. We are all editors of this document.
Triple Play
For this activity, we will practice parts of speech. Each group of three will be assigned one part of speech. They will place the word on one page, a definition on the second page, and an example on the third page.
Time to throw the baseballs.
The goal is to now find a Triple Play. You want the word, definition, and example to match. Throw back any that do not match.
Who Am I?
In this activity, we are going to practice our 1st grade Science vocabulary (weather). Each person will write their word a post-it and fold it in half. Exchange post-its with at least 3 people before beginning.
Without looking, place your new post-it on your forehead. With a partner, you will each give clues as to the vocabulary words on the post-its until each person guesses correctly.
Undercover Agent
For this activity, we will use these slides. You are welcome to make a copy so you can create your own Undercover Agent activity.
Vocabulary Pyramid Game
In our slides template, we are going to practice with a couple of fun topics: Candy Bars, Lab Equipment, and Education Acronyms
There is also a blank template available so you can create your own.
Word Whack
Each person will choose two possible answers (one correct and one distractor) for their partner. With each answer choice on a sticky note or card, the participant will "Whack" which they think is correct when the teacher prompts with "1, 2, 3, Word Whack".
