Hi everyone! My name is Demétrio, I’m 17 years old and I live in Almancil, Portugal.
I’m a big sports fan and one of my greatest passions is watching FC Porto matches. Even though the club hasn’t been at its best in recent years, I always support them. For me, football is much more than just a game – it’s almost like therapy. Whenever I watch Porto play, I forget about my thoughts and worries and I can simply enjoy the moment.
Another big passion of mine is Formula 1. I started following it in 2021 – probably the best year to start, since the championship was only decided in the very last race! The first Grand Prix I watched was Silverstone, and from then on I was hooked. My favorite driver is Lewis Hamilton and I’m a Mercedes fan, even now that Hamilton has left.
When I’m not watching sports, I like spending time with my family – I live with my parents, my sister, and our dog named Lucky 🐶.
And that’s me! A bit of a dreamer, very thoughtful, but always passionate about the things I love.
DAY 1
The day started early and full of excitement. We all met at the airport around 7:45 AM, ready to kick off our adventure. After everyone was gathered, we headed to check in our luggage, already feeling the buzz of the trip ahead.
Next, we went through security control, removing belts, electronics, and walking through the metal detector, which all went smoothly and without any issues. Right after that, we showed our documents at the border control, and with everything in order, we finally proceeded to the check-in for our flight to Dublin.
It was the true starting point of our journey, filled with great energy and high spirits.
As we were approaching Dublin, we had to circle in the air for about 30 minutes because we were not allowed to land for some reason. After that, the pilot announced that we would have to land in Manchester, which immediately worried us since we needed to be in Dublin to catch our flight to Vilnius.
Once we landed in Manchester, we waited for the pilot’s instructions. After a long wait, the pilot confirmed that we would be flying back to Dublin. As soon as we landed there, we had to rush to make our connecting flight, and in the end, we made it!
After boarding the flight to Vilnius, we had a long flight of about 3 hours. As soon as we arrived, we grabbed our bags and called an Uber to the hotel. After settling in, we went straight to sleep because we were very tired after such a crazy and hectic day.
DAY 2
IKI
We woke up around 8:30 AM. After taking a shower and getting dressed, we headed to Iki, a local supermarket, to buy our breakfast. It was our first contact with the daily routine here, and we could already notice some differences in the products and local habits. The visit to Iki helped us start the day full of energy and gave us the feeling that we’re slowly integrating into the city’s life.
+++
After eating, we decided to take a walk around the city to start getting our bearings and figure out where the main places are. We passed by Maxima, a big shopping center that has a bit of everything. It was a nice way to start getting familiar with the area.
Later on, we had lunch at Restaurant +++, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was really good, and luckily, the prices were quite affordable. It was a perfect break to recharge before continuing to explore.
LINESA
After lunch, we took a city bus to get to our internship placement at LINESA. Once there, we had a short meeting with Professor Eglė, who explained what the company does and gave us an overview of the tasks we'll be working on during the internship. It was a really positive first impression and left us feeling excited and hopeful about what’s ahead.
DINNER
Finally, we headed back to the hotel to rest for a bit. When it was time for dinner, we went out to eat at a restaurant with Professor Eglė. I decided to try the famous Chicken Kiev, but honestly I wasn’t a big fan. It tasted way too buttery for my liking. After dinner, we went back to the hotel to relax and get ready for the next day.
After the meeting, we took some more time to walk around the city center. We ended up running into a protest and saw some of the local monuments, which are truly beautiful and full of history. The architecture and atmosphere really made us feel like we were in a different country.
While walking, we stopped in front of one of the most beautiful monuments in the area, which stands right across from a street known for a very curious story. A few years ago, that street was often used by wealthy people who kept parking their cars where it wasn’t allowed. The government tried to solve the problem by increasing the fines, but since money wasn’t an issue for them, they continued parking illegally. The situation only changed when, in a drastic move, the government sent in a tank to crush the illegally parked cars! An unbelievable story that shows just how far they had to go to enforce the rules.
DAY 3
We woke up at 8:30 AM and after having breakfast we set out for what was definitely our first full day really exploring the city, focusing on culture, history, and nature.
We started by walking down a street full of local shops, like a lively market buzzing with energy. Shortly after we passed through an area where we saw two beautiful churches, which were some of the highlights of the morning. Interestingly we even spotted a Portuguese restaurant along the way.
Leaving the city center behind we headed toward a more natural area. We walked along trails surrounded by rivers, trees, and stunning scenery. After a while we spotted an iconic monument in the distance, the Three White Crosses on top of a hill. Even though the climb up the long staircase was tiring the view from the top made it all worth it, an incredible panoramic of the city paired with the grandeur of the crosses. It was a truly special moment.
On the way back down we kept exploring and found several other interesting monuments scattered around the city, which helped us learn more about its history and symbolism.
Around lunchtime we went for something quick and familiar, McDonald’s. We took a break and recharged there. After about an hour we went back home to relax.
Later that evening we went out for dinner at 7Fridays, the restaurant where we’ll be having most of our meals during our stay. I tried a burger that was honestly really good. After dinner we made a quick stop at Maxima to grab a few things we needed, then finally went back home to rest.
DAY 4
We woke up around 8:00 AM and at 9:00 AM we all met up. After gathering, we headed to the bus and went to our internship location.
When we arrived, we were welcomed by Professor Eglė who introduced the tasks we would be working on over the next few days. The activities were divided into groups and in pairs each person could choose what they wanted to do. It was our first real day at the internship and it gave us a good idea of what our daily routine would be like.
At 12:00 PM we went for lunch and after the break we returned to work continuing with the tasks assigned to us. We stayed focused until 4:00 PM when we finished the workday.
Before heading home we took the opportunity to visit a huge shopping center. The place was really big with three floors full of stores, a great chance to get to know what’s around here. We spent about an hour and a half exploring.
After that we caught the bus and went straight to the restaurant 7Fridays where we had dinner. After dinner I had a special moment, I called my mom, talked with her for a bit and shared how everything was going here. Finally we went back home to rest.
And that was another day full of experiences and discoveries.
DAY 5
Today we had to wake up earlier. We got up at 7:00 AM because we needed to be at the internship location by 9:00 AM sharp. To make sure we arrived on time, we took the bus at 8:00 AM. Despite a slight delay with the transport, we managed to get there perfectly on time.
As soon as we arrived, we went straight to our workroom and continued the tasks we had started on previous days. We stayed focused until 1:00 PM, when we took our lunch break.
After lunch, we went back to work and continued our activities until the end of the day. It was a calm and productive day, where we managed to make good progress with what was assigned to us.
When we finished, we went back home to rest a bit. Later, around 7:30 PM, we went to have dinner again at the 7Fridays restaurant. We ate very well, as always, and so far there hasn’t been a single bad meal at that place. I have really enjoyed everything I’ve tried there!
After dinner, I went back home to rest. And that was another day of our Erasmus experience.
DAY 6
Today we woke up with more time since we only had a visit to the library planned. We had breakfast calmly and around 9:30 AM, we decided to leave on foot, knowing the walk would take some time and that we needed to leave early.
After about 30 minutes of walking, we arrived at the library but didn’t see the rest of the group. We sent a message to ask where they were, and they said they were also at the library, which didn’t make sense since we couldn’t see them. To clarify, we messaged Professor Eglė to confirm the correct location. We quickly realized we were in the wrong place.
After receiving the correct location, we started walking to the real library. About 30 minutes later, we finally arrived and began working on the tasks assigned to us.
When it was time to finish, we went back home and had lunch. Some ordered pizza while others ate what was available in the fridge. After lunch, we rested until dinner time at 7:30 PM.
We went again to the 7Fridays restaurant, where the food was excellent once more, not disappointing us. After dinner, I took the opportunity to call my parents, chat a bit, handle some school supplies and voucher matters, and, of course, share lots of feelings of missing them.
To end the day, we took another walk around the city before heading home.
DAY 7
Today we woke up at 8:00 and agreed to meet at the front door of the hostel at 9:30. Once everyone was ready we headed to our first destination of the day, the Museum of Illusions, which luckily was very close to where we were staying.
We spent quite a while there exploring several impressive and unusual exhibits that really caught our attention. After the visit we went to another museum a bit farther away. Unlike the first one this one was more focused on the city's history and it was really huge. At every corner we discovered a new room with something different to see.
When we finally finished the visit we decided to have lunch together at McDonald’s. We were in need of a break and it was a great way to recharge our energy.
In the afternoon we visited an old prison. Honestly I didn’t enjoy this part very much, the atmosphere was heavy and it just didn’t interest me. To end the day we climbed up a tower. The tower was beautiful but we were already quite tired so the climb was a bit tough.
Even so when we reached the top the view made it all worth it. We stayed there for about 30 minutes to rest and enjoy the scenery. After that we went back down and returned home to end the day.
After we got home we rested for a bit and later I had hot dogs for dinner and went to sleep.
DAY 8
Today we woke up around 9:00 since it was our day off. We spent the morning relaxing. Some of us watched series, others played on their phones, each enjoying some downtime.
When it was time for lunch we decided to try a new place called Hesburger. It is a cheaper burger spot but still really good. After all, a burger is a burger.
After lunch we stopped by Iki to buy a few things we needed like trash bags and some other essentials.
Then we headed back home and spent the rest of the day relaxing. That’s how we spent our Sunday just taking it easy.
DAY 9
Well, week 2 started and we woke up at 8:00. We got ready and caught the 8:50 bus. After arriving at LINESA, we continued with our tasks until it was time for lunch. This time I decided to order a soup, but honestly I didn’t like it much because it was very watery.
After eating, we went back to the workroom until it was time to leave. Before going home, I decided to stop by the Wiki store and buy some noodles to make at home since I hadn’t eaten well at lunch.
After that, we didn’t leave the house again until around 7 PM because we went to dinner at 7Fridays. This time the food wasn’t what I expected. It started with a really strange soup and then came a supposed hamburger, but it was actually a sweet hamburger with shredded meat. Honestly, this wasn’t our day.
After dinner we left the restaurant and went to McDonald’s because I wanted to order a hamburger since I hadn’t eaten well all day. After that, we took a walk around the city before going home, and that was how the first day of week 2 ended.
DAY 10
We started the day similar to yesterday, with the same time to arrive and catch the bus. Until lunchtime, the routine was pretty much the same. But before lunch, Eglė told us that we could use a room they have with ping pong and foosball. So after a few hours, we could take a break and play some ping pong, which I honestly really enjoyed.
After that, we went to Maxima for lunch because I wanted to eat something I liked. Once we finished eating, we went back to work and continued until it was time to leave. After that, we went home.
For dinner, once again, the food at 7Fridays wasn’t the best. The main dish was okay, but I didn’t like the soup at all. After dinner, we went back home.
DAY 11
Today we woke up around 9 a.m. Since it was our first day working from home and we didn’t have to go to the workplace, we took the chance to sleep a bit longer.
After waking up, I took a shower and had breakfast. Then we started discussing as a group what we were going to do next and how to continue with the task we’re working on.
Around lunchtime, we went to eat at the kebab place next to our house. It's becoming a regular spot. After lunch, we headed back home and finished what we had started earlier in the day.
Later in the afternoon, we each took some time to relax and do our own thing. It was a calm and easy-going end to the day.
For dinner, we went to 7 Fridays and finally the food was good again. We had a bean and vegetable soup that was actually really tasty, and the main dish was also delicious. After dinner, we went back home to rest.
DAY 12
We started the day around 9 a.m. After waking up, we had breakfast and then I joined my group so we could plan and organize what we were going to do today.
Once everything was set, we started working until it was time for lunch. Before eating, we took the chance to visit a second-hand clothing store, which was really interesting. After that, we went to Maxima to buy some things we needed, like water, food and a few other essentials.
When we got back to the hotel, it was still lunchtime, so we decided to play a game of Uno. It ended up being a lot of fun and brought some good laughs.
We stayed in until around 7 p.m., when we went out for dinner. The food wasn’t bad today, at least the main dish. I didn’t really enjoy the soup, but to be fair, it wasn’t the worst thing either.
And that was our twelfth day.
DAY 13
Today we all woke up feeling a bit lazy. The day was colder and cloudy, which didn’t really help us get out of bed. After about an hour, we had to leave the house because the cleaning lady was coming.
We went to the café next door, but it wasn’t quite what we expected, so we ended up going back to the reception area and used the time to get some work done.
Later on, since the cleaning lady still wasn’t finished, we went to have lunch at Hesburger. When we got back, we had already completed our tasks for the day, so we decided to relax a bit and played some group games.
We only went out again around 7 p.m. to have dinner. After that, we came back home and ended the day in a calm and relaxed way.
DAY 14
Today we woke up around 8 a.m. because we had planned a visit to a nearby city called Trakai. After taking a shower and getting dressed, I met up with the group at the hotel entrance at 9:30, just like we had agreed.
We walked for about 30 minutes to get to the train station, and then took a train to Trakai. The ride took around half an hour.
Once we arrived, we started exploring the city on foot. We wandered around, checking out the area until we finally reached the famous Trakai Castle. It’s a really beautiful place, surrounded by water. We took some photos and spent some time just enjoying the view.
Later on, we found a restaurant along the way and stopped for lunch. I ordered a grilled chicken burger, which was surprisingly good!
After lunch, we made our way back to the train station and returned to Vilnius. In the evening, we had dinner at home and just relaxed for the rest of the night.
DAY 15
Today we woke up around 10 a.m. After taking a shower and getting dressed, we decided to try a different place for lunch and ended up going to a pizzeria.
After lunch, we went back home and spent some time playing UNO, which was fun and chill. The rest of the afternoon we just relaxed and watched some football matches, including the Liverpool vs. City game and a few others.
In the evening, we went out again for dinner — this time to a new restaurant we hadn’t tried before. The food was really good, and surprisingly cheap for the quality of the dish.
After dinner, we headed back home and ended the day there.
DAY 16
We woke up around 10 a.m. to a grey, rainy day. With weather like that, none of us really felt like going outside. We spent the morning just relaxing, and when lunchtime came, we decided to order a pizza to keep things simple.
After lunch, we started working on the PowerPoint that our teachers had asked us to prepare. We stayed focused for a while and, luckily, managed to finish everything without too much trouble. Once we were done, we each chilled for a bit, watching stuff on our phones until it was time for dinner.
We went out to eat at 7 Fridays. We started with a really tasty soup — I actually liked it a lot — and the main course was okay, nothing amazing, but it did the job.
Back at home, I spent a bit of time talking to my parents before heading to bed. It was a calm, productive day, and honestly, it felt good to slow down a little.
DAY 17
Today we woke up at 7:40, right at the last minute, because last night no one could fall asleep, and we all ended up going to bed quite late. In the morning, we were really behind schedule, so everything was a bit chaotic. We had less than 10 minutes to be at the bus stop.
Luckily, we got ready super fast — almost like the Flash — and managed to catch the bus on time. When we arrived at Linesa, the place where we've been working, we immediately started presenting what we had done so far and explained the parts we still needed to finish.
After the presentation, we got back to work and tried to complete everything before lunchtime. Since we had a bit of free time, we went to grab something to eat at a kebab place nearby. After that, we headed to the bus stop again and went to a place where we watched a short “movie” — if you can even call it that — using VR headsets.
When we left, it had started to rain, so some people decided to go straight home. But since Eric and I were already in the city center, we took the opportunity to check out a few shopping centers nearby to see if they had any interesting stores.
Later on, we caught the bus back home and took some time to rest. We only went out again around 7 p.m. when it was time for dinner. The food was pretty good, not really anything new, but it was decent. Since I'm not a big fan of fried fish, it wasn’t my favorite dish, but that’s just personal preference.
After dinner, we came back home and, since it was Champions League night, we watched some of the games until 10 p.m. That’s when we had an online meeting with our teachers from Portugal. It was a chance to talk about how things have been going, how we’re managing the project, and to remind ourselves that it’s up to us to take responsibility. We don’t always need someone checking in on us to get things done.
Finally, we watched the Benfica game, which unfortunately ended in a 2–3 loss to Qarabağ. And that’s how the day ended — we went to sleep shortly after.
DAY 18
Today we woke up a bit earlier than yesterday, so we had more time in the morning. Even so, we weren’t exactly on time… we left the house pretty much at the same time the bus was supposed to already be at the stop. Luckily, since there’s usually some traffic and lots of traffic lights, we still managed to catch it without a problem.
We headed to work and, since we’re getting close to the end of our internship, we spent the day improving our project. We also spoke with the teacher to better understand what changes she wanted, so we can leave it exactly the way she wants and make it a useful tool for them.
We only left when it was lunchtime. Since there was a bus coming soon, we decided to head home. The weather was really rainy and cloudy, so we ordered food instead. I was really missing some rice and chicken… and that’s exactly what we got! It was great and honestly hit the spot. I’m really starting to miss Portuguese food can’t wait to have it again.
Later, we only went out for dinner. That was great too: chicken with tomato and melted cheese. I loved it. After that, we went back home and watched the Champions League matches, and later on, we went to sleep.
DAY 19
Today we worked from home so we ended up waking up a bit later around 10 a.m. After getting ready it was time for lunch so we went to McDonalds. After eating we took a walk around the city center and also went to the shopping mall which is on the same street as McDonalds.
Later we went back home and around 3 p.m. the cleaning lady came to clean our room. We used that time to go to Maxima and buy a few things we needed like water. When we returned to the hotel she still had not finished cleaning so we just dropped off the shopping in the room and then I and Scaletchi went back out to explore more of the city.
We visited a few places we had not seen yet including a park where we found a giant chessboard. Of course we had to play a match me against Scaletchi and surprisingly I won. I honestly do not even know how because he usually plays chess on his phone and is much better than me. But anyway it was really fun either way.
After the game we walked around the park a bit more and then headed back home. Later on we went out for dinner which was also very good. After eating we returned to the room and watched some more Champions League matches.
And just like that another day came to an end.
DAY 20
We woke up around 10 in the morning. It was one of those days when no one really felt like doing anything, so we decided to stay at home. We had lunch there and only went out when it was time for dinner. The day went by quietly, with no big plans.
DAY 21
We woke up around 8 AM and since we had agreed to meet at the hotel entrance at 8:50, we got ready quickly. When the time came, we headed to the train station to go to Kaunas. Since the trip wasn't going to be very short, I listened to music and enjoyed the view during the ride.
After about an hour and a half, we arrived and went straight to the place where we were going to do our activities. We started by looking at things under a microscope, which was quite interesting. Then we moved on to another activity related to planet Earth. There were a lot of things to see but I didn’t really understand much because the man was speaking only in Lithuanian.
After that we decided to have lunch at McDonald’s. Once we finished, we met again in the same place to do the last task of the day. After trying out everything, we started walking toward the train station. Since we still had some time, we passed through a huge local shopping mall to look around a bit.
Eventually we got on the train back. When we got home we were all really tired, so we had dinner at home and went straight to sleep.
DAY 22
Today we woke up really late, around 11 AM. After getting up, I took a shower to fully wake up and then we went to Maxima to buy some things we needed like water and a few other essentials.
When we got back home, we all decided to order food. I ordered a pepperoni pizza, which was actually really good. Later on, we spent some time watching the football games that were on today, including Manchester City vs Arsenal, which turned out to be a great match.
In the evening we had dinner at home. That was pretty much how the day went.
DAY 23
Today was the first day of our last week. After waking up and getting ready, we went straight to the bus stop to catch the bus to Linessa. Once we got there, we started taking care of the final details of our work, as almost everything is in the final stages. We stayed until 1 p.m.
After that, we took advantage of our free time and stopped by the Maxima next to our workplace before heading home for lunch.
Around 6:40 p.m., the teachers sent a message saying they wanted us to meet in our room to talk about a few things. They wanted to understand how things were going and to discuss some approaches that we maybe weren't handling in the most correct way.
After the meeting, we all went together to 7 Fridays for dinner. The food wasn't bad, but honestly, the worst part was the soup. The main dish wasn't terrible, but it wasn't something I loved either. After dinner, we went home to watch the Ballon d'Or ceremony. We went to bed a little later than usual.
DAY 24
Today we woke up around 8:30. After getting ready, we took the bus as usual. When we arrived at Linesa, the day started a bit differently. Instead of going straight to our regular tasks, we went to the lab to do some experiments. It was actually a lot of fun and something out of the ordinary.
After that, we returned to our usual work for a while. Around lunchtime, we went back home and ate there. The afternoon was more relaxed, and we only went out again around 7 PM to have dinner.
Unfortunately, the food wasn't that great. The main dish was okay, but I really didn’t like the soup at all. After dinner, we stopped by Maxima to buy some water and a few other things we needed.
Finally, we headed back home and called it a day.
DAY 25
Today wasn't too different from yesterday. We woke up around the same time and started what would be our last day at Linesa. When we arrived, there wasn’t much to do since we had already finished all our tasks. So, we took the opportunity to relax a bit and play some ping pong until lunchtime.
For lunch, we went to Domino’s, which was actually really good — I left feeling completely full. After that, we headed back to Linesa to meet with Professor Egle and talk about how our month had gone. She was really kind and even offered us some cake, which was delicious. Since I was still very full from the pizza, I just had one slice.
We thanked her for everything, said our goodbyes, and then took the bus back home. Later in the evening, around 7 PM, we went out again to have dinner. The food wasn’t bad, but I’m really starting to miss Portuguese food.
To end the day, we took a little walk and then went back home.
DAY 26
Today was a pretty chill day. Since we’ve already finished our work, we slept in and woke up around 10 AM. We didn’t really have anything planned in the morning, so we just stayed home and relaxed.
We only went out around 1 PM to get some lunch and decided to grab a kebab. It was really cold outside, about 9 degrees Celsius, so after eating we headed straight back home to warm up.
Later, around 7 PM, we went out again for dinner. This time we tried another 7 Fridays restaurant we hadn’t been to yet. The food was good, but as soon as we finished, I rushed back home because I didn’t want to miss the Porto match (priorities!).
After the game, I just went to sleep.
DAY 27
Today we woke up earlier because by 9:45 AM we had to be ready and waiting at the hotel entrance to meet the teacher. We were going to Linesa and the day promised to be full of activities.
As soon as we arrived in Linesa, we met the man who was going to accompany us throughout the day. After some travel time, we arrived at the first museum, which was about cars. Unfortunately, we had an unexpected issue — the museum was closed. After talking to our teacher Egle, we realized there had been a mistake in the schedule. The visit was actually planned for Thursday, not today. It was a planning mix-up.
Even so, we didn’t let the mistake ruin the day. We moved on to the next place, but since everything was planned in a sequence, that one ended up being closed too.
So we decided to walk to a nearby place that, although it didn’t have anything specific planned, was a really beautiful area surrounded by nature. There was a lot of forested space and, honestly, I really enjoyed that calm moment in the middle of nature.
After taking a short break, we went to another place where, fortunately, one of the planned activities was actually happening. It was a space dedicated to planet Earth and outer space. We did several activities related to those topics and it was quite interesting.
At the end, we started heading back. For dinner, we went once again to 7 Fridays, in what would be our last meal out. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bad experience. The dish I was served was honestly one of the worst I’ve ever had. It looked and tasted more like a dessert than a main dish, which was really disappointing.
And that’s how our day ended, with highs and lows, but definitely something to remember.
DAY 28
Today started around 10:30 a.m. when we met outside the hotel. The plan was to show the city to our teacher, including some of the places we had visited when we first arrived.
We gave the tour our own way — nothing too detailed or planned out like it was when Professor Paulo and Professor Duarte had everything perfectly organized. Even so, everything went really well! The timing and the route we chose worked out perfectly.
After walking around quite a bit and showing the main sights, we headed to the city center, where most of the shops and restaurants are. Since it was lunchtime, we decided to try KFC for a change.
Once we finished eating and had another quick stroll around the center, we went back home to rest for a while. Later in the evening, we went out again for dinner. Since it was our last chance, we made sure to go to Hesburger one final time.
After dinner, we headed back, packed our bags… and that was the end of our day.
DAY 29
After so many days away, it was finally time to go back home. I was really looking forward to seeing my parents and my dog again, so I could barely sleep. I ended up waking up at 6 a.m., even though we were only leaving the house at 10:50. At least I had time to shower calmly and double-check that I hadn’t forgotten anything.
After a long wait, it was finally time to catch the bus to the airport. The ride took about 20 minutes, and once we arrived, we went straight to drop off our luggage. Then we finished the check-in process and waited until it was time to board.
Our flight from Vilnius left at around 1 p.m. towards Vienna, the capital of Austria. It was about a two-hour flight, and honestly, it went by pretty fast. But when we got to Vienna, we had to wait a long time — our flight to Portugal wasn’t until 7 p.m., and that wait felt endless.
Once we’d done everything we had to do, we finally boarded the plane. That second flight felt so long… I just couldn’t wait to get off and be home.
In the end, we made it. It was such a cool experience, and I really enjoyed being part of this Erasmus project. I’m taking home some amazing memories.
