Cover Letter

Purpose: To introduce yourself to the employer, express interest in their organization/position, encourage the reader to view your resume, and motivate them to interview you for the position. Used to capture the attention of the employer.

Resume

Purpose: A quick, concise "advertisement" of your education, experience, skills, interests, awards/honors listed in reverse chronological order with the most recent/relevant information first. Keep in mind that employers do not what an autobiography, keep it short & sweet! Typically no more than one (1) page.

Interview

Purpose: The employer has a chance to learn more about the personality and abilities of the potential employee. The interview also allows the potential employee the chance to see whether their career goals match up with what the business/company is seeking to hire.

Thank-You/Follow-Up

Purpose: A short letter/note to thank the employer for meeting with you, show continued interest in the position, repeat your skills for the position, summarize the highlights from your interview, and provide contact information to the employer once again. 

Resignation Letter

Purpose: To create an official record of notice, provide details about the employee's last day, outline any next steps, and maintain a positive relationship with the employer.
