As a reminder, EPS high school students are allowed to use their Career Exploration Day for one (1) day of the following events.
August 19, 2024 through April 2025, Youth Leadership Omaha (YLO) is an exciting leadership opportunity that is only offered to 10th graders, and the applications are open and available online now. YLO is an interactive leadership development program that brings together 40 high school sophomores from schools all over the Omaha/Metro area to realize their potential to be shapers of their communities. Participants will engage with local business and community leaders to gain a deeper understanding of our city’s assets and challenges. This annual program helps students build their network, gain new insights on civic themes, and grow their impact, and there is no cost for the student. Youth Leadership Omaha aims to recruit a diverse class of students with leadership potential regardless of economic capacity.

Please note that participants will miss six days of school throughout the academic year for this special program (one Friday monthly for six months). Every applicant will be required to submit their principal’s approval to be considered for this program.
Below is a general timeline for YLO:
August 19 – September 6, 2024: YLO application is open
October 2 - 5, 2024: Interviews will be conducted and a class of 30 selected
November 2024 – April 2025: Six monthly day-long seminars
April 2025: YLO Graduation

January 10, 2025 (Initial Application DEADLINE), Methodist Hospital's 2025 High School Internship Program! We look forward to welcoming our third cohort and continuing to offer high school students a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in the healthcare field and explore potential career paths within a hospital setting. We encourage you to share this opportunity with students who may be interested.

July 28th-August 1st, 2025, Young Scientist Research Workshop-UNMC: The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology is excited to share a unique opportunity for middle and high school students: an NSF-funded, weeklong research workshop we will be hosting in the summer of 2025 at UNMC. This workshop is designed to provide students with hands-on research experience and a deeper understanding of hypothesis-driven science. Participants will work on a research project using Tribolium castaneum (red flour beetle) as a genetic model system. Through this experience, students will learn to:
Design and execute molecular biology experiments.
Interpret and analyze experimental data.
Gain a practical understanding of the scientific method.

Omaha STEM Ecosystem and AIM Institute announced the launch of the FREE online STEM Community Platform, presented by Cox. The mission of the STEM Community Platform is to connect youth, parents, educators and professionals to an online hub of high-quality STEM programs, resources and events. The website offers easy functionality for the user to find kids camps, career listings in STEM career fields and informational resources for elementary aged children to adults.
Opera Omaha-Student Dress Rehearsals: Going beyond the ordinary field trip experience, Student Dress Rehearsals at Opera Omaha offer students a deep, meaningful encounter with many of the elements that bring the productions to the stage and a chance to see how a show is fine-tuned while watching many of the professional artists, technicians and managers in action.
Dress rehearsals are a great opportunity for students to experience an opera performance and see artisans at work before the show opens to the public. We are privileged to be able to offer our students and chaperones this amazing opportunity for FREE. More information is available here!
