Angelic’s Kitchen started off with just one festival to her booking over twenty festivals during the spring & summer months. Angelic's Kitchen has grown over the years and now consists of catering, a food truck and the Soul Food Eatery located inside the Dairy Market in Charlottesville, VA. Angelic Jenkins shares the homemade macaroni and cheese recipe she has perfected over the years. Soul Food at its best!
Both students share how they carry on the traditions of their home cultures in Virginia and their aspirations for the future. Fridaous (from Togo and Benin) is a freshman at Mary Baldwin University while serving in the US Army and has been a Better Future Fellow since 2018. Reham (from Syria and Egypt) is a senior at Charlottesville High School and has been a Better Future Fellow since 2019 -- she is still deciding on a college for Fall 2022.
Dance and music performances from an array of cultures are a customary offering at the Charlottesville Festival of Cultures. A trio of videos offers a small glimpse into our usual day-long program, a reminder that a wide range of international dance and music is alive and thriving in Charlottesville.
Chicho's inspiration: "The coloring pages represent how similar humans are, depicting people from different cultures playing their own music, some ceremonially, some just as entertainment. I’ve always considered the Festival of Cultures to be an opportunity to do what I think we all should do: to get along, share, and learn to value differences."

Light House Studio equips Charlottesville's young people with the skills and confidence to tell their stories, build community through collaborative filmmaking, and flourish as students, storytellers, and citizens. Curated for the Festival of Cultures in Us Begins With U, our community's youth express their views of unity in the midst of cultural diversity.
PVCC Instructor of Japanese and Japan Club Advisor, Noriko Donahue, shares: "My Japanese students and I composed a class theme song, “Room 174,” which is our classroom number. The students wrote the lyrics in English and I wrote the Japanese lyrics accordingly. Then, one student and I composed the music to the lyrics, and five of us performed it together. Finally, a student made a video, using photos I took the same year."
