By the end of the lesson I will be able to solve a multi-step linear equation by repetitive use of inverse operations on the opposite side of the equation

Success criteria

I am able to:

· check a solution to an equation by substitution

· identify equivalent equations

· find an equivalent equation using inverse operation on opposite side

· solve linear equations using repetitive inverse operations on opposite side

Equations with brackets and pronumerals on both sides

By the end of the lesson I will be able to solve linear equations which contain brackets and have a pronumeral on both sides of the equation

Success criteria

I am able to:

· expand brackets and collect like terms

· solve equations that require expansion of brackets

· solve equations that have the pronumeral on both sides

· solve equations with a combination of brackets and pronumeral on both sides

· express a worded description, with pronumeral given, as an equation and solve

Solving word problems

By the end of the lesson I will be able to solve worded problems using linear equations

Success criteria

I am able to:

· define a variable from a worded description

· write an equation to represent the worded description

· solve the equation

· write a worded solution to the problem

Inequalities

Learning goal

By the end of the lesson I will be able to solve linear inequations and represent on a number line

Success criteria

I am able to:

· identify each of the inequality signs

· represent an inequality on a number line including correct end point symbols

· solve linear inequations using inverse operation on opposite side

· solve inequations that require expansion of brackets

· solve inequations that have the pronumeral on both sides

· solve equations with a combination of brackets and pronumeral on both sides

· express a worded description, with pronumeral given, as an inequation and solve

Using formulas

Learning goal

By the end of the lesson I will be able to solve linear inequations and represent on a number line

Success criteria

I am able to:

· identify the subject of a formula

· evaluate the subject of a formula by substitution for other variables

· transpose a formula to make a specific variable the subject

· use a given formula to solve a worded problem

· express a worded description, with variables given, as a formula
