Learning Goals & Success Criteria
Summarising data: measures of centre
Learning goal
By the end of the lesson I will be able to summarise data using measures of centre.
Success criteria
I am able to:
· calculate the mean of a listed set of data
· calculate the median of a listed set of data
· calculate the mode (if appropriate) of a listed set of data
· calculate a missing datum from a listed set of data for a given mean
· calculate a missing datum from a listed set of data for a given median
· calculate a possible set of data for a given mean, median and mode
Stem-and-leaf plots (Note this refers to orderedstem and leaf plots)
Learning goal
By the end of the lesson I will be able to identify a stem and leaf plot and use one to summarise data graphically
Success criteria
I am able to:
· construct a stem and leaf plot to represent a set of data
· construct a back to back stem and leaf plot to represent and compare two sets of data
· use a stem and leaf plot to identify the shape of a data set as symmetrical, negatively skewed or positively skewed
· calculate the mean of a set of data given in a stem and leaf plot
· calculate the median of a set of data given in a stem and leaf plot
· calculate the mode of a set of data given in a stem and leaf plot
Grouped data
Learning goal
By the end of the lesson I will be able to summarise data using different displays and appropriate class intervals.
Success criteria
I am able to:
· construct a frequency table that represents a set of data
· construct a frequency table that represents a set of data using class intervals
· draw a histogram to represent a set of data using class intervals
· calculate percentage frequency and include in frequency table and represent by a histogram using class intervals
Measures of spread
Learning goal
By the end of the lesson I will be able to represent the spread of data using appropriate measures.
Success criteria
I am able to:
· calculate the minimum value of a listed set of data
· calculate the lower quartile value of a listed set of data
· calculate the median value of a listed set of data
· calculate the upper quartile value of a listed set of data
· calculate the maximum value of a listed set of data
· calculate the range of a listed set of data by using the maximum and minimum values
· calculate the inter-quartile range of a listed set of data by using the upper and lower quartile values
· identify any outliers for a listed set of data
Box plots
Learning goal
By the end of the lesson I will be able to identify a box plot and use one to summarise data graphically.
Success criteria
I am able to:
· identify the five figure summary from a box plot
· calculate the five figure summary from a listed set of data
· construct a box plot to represent a set of data (including outliers)
· compare two or more sets of data by interpreting parallel box plots
