Statement of Intent: My body of work explores the feeling of isolation among community in a typical suburban setting. Twilight in Suburbia is an exploration of confinement and involuntary solitude despite being surrounded by people. I was inspired by the quiet streets of Launceston, Tasmania, as a concept, and used my own neighbourhood as subject matter. My body of work is intended to feel empty, calm and abandoned; there is the indication of civilisation, shown through houses, telephone towers, tv aerials and other structures that envelop the suburban aesthetic, yet there are no people in sight.
