Title of Artwork: The Future We Chose

Statement of Intent: ​The state of our coral reefs has become a cause for concern, ever-increasing in urgency since the first mass coral bleaching event in 1983. My artwork articulates the devastating impact that mass coral death from multiple bleaching events has had on fragile ocean ecosystems, leading to a domino effect in food chains caused by the reduction of habitats that ensure survival of marine species. Thousands of marine animals depend on coral reefs to survive, meaning that the impact of these events is massive, and the increasing incidence of them will result in the reduction of biodiversity and extinction of our precious marine life.
