Title of Artwork: Planetary Anxiety

Media Area: Collection of Works

Statement of Intent: In my body of work the concepts of isolation and anguish are deeply explored, which consequently evokes a sense of unease within the audience. I intend to use my artwork to portray the intense emotional response and struggle regarding mental illness, with specific emphasis on anxiety. This is done through the cosmic subject matter of my work, and the expressive abstract faces that have been integrated into the planets’ geographic features. These two aspects are linked through a common fear of the unknown, being present not only in nature but also within oneself. The effects of mental illness have been heightened in recent times, greatly effecting humanity as a whole. I aim to address this in my artwork through the ideas of alienation and the internalisation of one’s emotions.
