CROMER COURIER
Charlize P from year 9 is one of our talented HPGE Creative and Performing Arts Program students.
She recently won first prize in the Newcastle Maritime Art Prize - High School division. What an amazing achievement!
Bleached Sea
My artwork combines acrylic paint with a real plastic bleach bottle to highlight the urgent impact of pollution on marine life. The sea turtle is shown with colour drained from its body symbolising how pollution is stripping the ocean of its life and vibrancy. I wanted to challenge people to consider how everyday waste ends up in our oceans, threatening the beauty and balance of nature.
In week 7, Eli D competed at CHS athletics championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Eli's fantastic results:
Gold medal in the 200m final with a time of 26.24 seconds.
Silver medal in the 100m with a new PB time of 12.85 seconds.
Qualified 6th for the hurdles final and finished 6th in the final.
Well done Eli on your progression through athletics in your first year of high school.
Olive Milas participated in the Year 7 Schools Waterpolo competition. While Cromer doesn’t have a team, Olive joined Mackellar’s team under the 'NBSC / Mackellar+.’
The team won the gold medal against Brigidine in the nail-biter final. Both teams trading goals in a fast-paced, high-pressure encounter - winning with less than half a minute on the clock. Congratulations Olive!
Another great result for Declan J!
Declan won the u15 MTB downhill event held at GreenValley. It was a strong field of 40 in the u15 category.
Declan also won the U15 Enduro State Champion the MTB enduro race (held at Ourimbah) so he is now the State Champion!
Hugo B (yr 8) also came in an impressive third place!
Was great consistent riding from both boys, over the 5 hour event.
Congratulations to Anna S who will be travelling to Perth in Week 10 to compete in the Australian Youth Volleyball competition as part of the NSW State Team.
Anna will then be heading to America where she will compete against some of the strongest club teams in the states, while preparing for the upcoming Australian Camp.
We wish Anna every success on this exciting opportunity and look forward to celebrating the team’s achievements upon her return.
Hi, I'm Mitchell and I play in the Southern Northern Beaches Jazz Band.
The band was formed this year by Surrey Hodges. We are a group of kids from year 3 to year 10 from different schools all across the Northern Beaches. I joined the band this term and have had an amazing time.
As one of the older kids it's a great opportunity for me to help the younger kids enjoy and improve their playing. I'm looking forward to my first gig at Buckettys Brewery on Sunday the 28th.We also have a few gigs coming up later in the year at Lazybones in Marrickville and Forestville RSL.
If you love jazz and having heaps of fun then this is the community band to join.
Several Cromer Campus students are proudly performing with the Collaroy Jazz Collective, a community ensemble bringing together young jazz musicians from across the Northern Beaches.
The group has already performed at venues such as The Dug Out, the War Vets RSL in Narrabeen, and Lazybones in Marrickville, giving students the chance to share their music with live audiences. Representing Cromer Campus are Conor M (tenor saxophone), Angus W (trumpet), Josh J (trombone), and Lachie B (guitar).
Participation in this community band allows these students to extend their skills beyond the classroom, explore improvisation, and enjoy being part of the wider music community.
Trepan is an emerging student band featuring Armand S and Spencer W from Cromer Campus, along with bandmates Ini and Xavier. Together they have been actively performing throughout 2025, building a reputation on the Northern Beaches and beyond with a series of headline shows, support slots, and competition appearances.
This year Trepan has performed at venues such as 7th Day Brewery, Club Palm Beach, and The Duke of Enmore. Highlights include supporting acts at the Bangally Venue and The Duke of Enmore, as well as headlining their own show at 7th Day Brewery.
The band also entered the Clash of the Bands competition at Club Palm Beach, progressing through the heats, earning a second chance in the round-up, and making it all the way to the Grand Final on 15 August 2025.
Trepan continues to grow in confidence and profile, with upcoming gigs such as their performance for Groms Month at 7th Day Brewery on 1 Nov 2025.
Sweet Tooth is a student band featuring Annalise R, Ruby J, Joel M, and Spencer W from Cromer Campus.
The group brought their energy and creativity to the stage in 2025 as part of the Clash of the Bands competition at Club Palm Beach.
Their performances highlighted strong vocals, tight instrumentation, and a commitment to original and engaging live music. Competing alongside other local youth bands, Sweet Tooth helped cement the school’s reputation for producing passionate and skilled musicians.
Participation in Clash of the Bands gave the group the chance to perform in a professional setting, gain valuable stage experience, and connect with other young musicians in the community. With their combination of talent and drive, Sweet Tooth has established themselves as another band to watch from Cromer Campus.
Lorelei is a student band featuring Lachie B, Spencer W, and Raph M. The group is always rehearsing at school, working hard to refine their sound and build their repertoire. Their commitment has led to regular opportunities to perform at a variety of local venues, where they continue to grow in confidence and stage presence.
In 2025, Lorelei has been steadily developing a following, with their mix of energy and creativity making an impression on audiences. Their next performance will be at the 7th Day Brewery on 11 October 2025, giving them another chance to share their music with the community and showcase the progress they’ve made through countless rehearsals and live shows.
Two of our Cromer Campus students are part of the NSW Millennium Marching Band, a state ensemble that brings together talented young musicians from across New South Wales. Representing Cromer Campus are Karina H (alto saxophone), Hamish B (percussion) and alumni Stefanie H (flute).
The band has performed at major events including the Southern Stars showcase in Wollongong and the Teaching Awards at Sydney Town Hall, giving students the opportunity to be part of large-scale performances in front of packed audiences.

Abbey M, has achieved an outstanding milestone by performing with the Opera Australia Children’s Chorus in their acclaimed production of Carmen at the Sydney Opera House.
Across the 2025 Winter Season, Abbey has taken part in 26 performances, appearing on stage in one of the world’s most famous operas. The production has given her the rare opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside professional singers, musicians, and directors, experiencing first-hand the demands and excitement of opera at the highest level.
Performing in Carmen has allowed Abbey to develop her vocal skills, musicianship, and stage presence, while also learning the discipline and teamwork required for large-scale productions. Beyond the music, she has gained valuable insight into the world of professional theatre, from costume fittings and choreography to the coordination needed for such a complex work.
Being part of Opera Australia is a remarkable achievement for a school student, and Abbey’s commitment across an intensive performance season highlights her talent, dedication, and passion for the arts.
Roan M is a member of the Intermediate Wind Ensemble (IWE) of the Northern Sydney Symphonic Wind Ensemble (NSSWE).
The IWE is NSSWE’s second most senior ensemble, bringing together talented young musicians from Years 8 to 10. Members rehearse and perform challenging and rewarding repertoire designed to prepare them for the organisation’s flagship ensemble.
Each year, the Intermediate Wind Ensemble performs at a variety of major events, including Community Concerts, the Spring Music Festival (featuring several concerts), and the end-of-year Showcase Concert. Participation in the ensemble provides students with invaluable experience performing in a high-level symphonic wind group, while developing their technical ability, ensemble awareness, and confidence on stage.
Four Cromer Campus students have recently taken part in the Common Ground program, an initiative of the Ethics Centre designed to counter discrimination and prejudice, foster diversity and inclusiveness, and build supportive communities.
The program, aimed at Year 9 and Year 10 students, builds awareness of prejudice and empowers young people with the practical skills, confidence, and knowledge to recognise and challenge discrimination, promote inclusion, and take positive action at school, online, and in their local communities.
Representing Cromer Campus were Annalise R, Ruby J, Natasha E, and Eva S, along with Cromer Campus alumni Annabel U. As part of their involvement, Annalise and Ruby wrote a rap song, supported by Spencer W and Mr Rolet, and together with their group they filmed a music video exploring the themes of prejudice, discrimination, and inclusiveness.
Participation in Common Ground has given these students the chance to use creativity as a platform for positive change, while encouraging leadership, empathy, and social responsibility within the school community.

Two Cromer Campus students, Eva S and Sara M, recently attended the NSW State Music Camp, joining more than 250 young musicians from across the state for a week of intensive rehearsals, workshops, and performances.
The camp provides a unique opportunity for students to extend their musicianship, connect with like-minded peers, and work with leading conductors and instrumental tutors. Each day is filled with activities including warm-ups, major ensemble rehearsals (Ensemble 1), smaller specialised groups (Ensemble 2), choir, and recreation opportunities such as rock climbing and archery.
Students are placed into large ensembles such as wind bands, symphony orchestra, stage band, or choir, and also take part in a camp item that brings the entire group together for a massed performance. The week culminates in a public concert.
Participation in the NSW State Music Camp has allowed Eva and Sara to challenge themselves musically, experience the excitement of large-scale ensemble playing, and be part of a program that many students describe as one of the most rewarding experiences of their school years.
