CROMER COURIER
Integrated Studies students Nicholas, Oliver, Emily and Kai had the opportunity to attend TAFE for a Hospitality course this term. They completed the Start Your Future Hospitality unit focusing on practical skills like customer service, beverage preparation and hygiene.
They put their newfound knowledge to good use with an Afternoon Tea, welcoming family members, to conclude their unit of work. A great time was had by all. They enjoyed making all types of coffee, smoothies and spiders for their VIP customers. Great to see the enthusiasm for learning new skills and meeting new friends!
Year 7 Students had a great few days away on their camp at The Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kincumber in week 9. Students represented Cromer Campus beautifully in a range of activities, from team building, problem solving and facing fears.
Activities included the giant swing (most popular), the mud course which saw students get well out of their comfort zone, and archery. In their groups, students supported and helped each other face challenges to work together as a team! Students had a great time and created memories that will last a lifetime.
Our whole school had an amazing day at our Swimming Carnival in week 6! The energy, sportsmanship, and talent on display were outstanding, with students giving their all in every race. A big congratulations to everyone who participated, whether in the pool or cheering from the sidelines!
The day was filled with plenty of excitement, friendly competition, and memorable moments that showcase our students’ dedication and team spirit. The photos truly captured the fun and enthusiasm of the event!
In week 4, Integrated Studies was lucky to have Daly Cherry-Evans and Simi Laiafai from the Manly Sea Eagles visit our students. Both players shared valuable insights into their careers and offered our students motivational life advice.
Students asked fabulous questions such as " What makes a good leader'? Daly Cherry Evans spoke about the importance of kindness and connection to family and friends. This message was well received by our Integrated Studies students.
The visit concluded with our students participating in some skills such as passing, photo opportunities and a highlight was a goal scored through the hoop, from half way, using a football.
The Integrated Studies team had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Circus in Education to Cromer Campus.
The atmosphere was electric as talented performers captivated the audience with their breath-taking skills in juggling, mesmerizing giant balloon tricks, and astounding plate spinning, all infused with plenty of laughter and joy.
After the spectacular performance, our eager students had the opportunity to dive into the circus magic themselves during an interactive workshop. From juggling to hula hooping, everyone jumped right in, and the smiles were as bright as the circus lights!
Our annual School Athletics Carnival in week 11 was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm, and team spirit! Students from all year levels participated in a range of events, from sprint races to high jump and even novelty events. Despite the rainy weather, the House spirit was on full display, with plenty of cheering, colourful outfits, and friendly competition.
Congratulations to Gurian for taking out the overall House trophy, and a big well done to all our age champions. Thank you to the staff, volunteers, and families who helped make the day a great success!
We were excited to host our Term 1 Ensembles Evening on Wednesday 2nd April, giving our music students the chance to perform and showcase their incredible work. The evening featured a variety of performances, including rock bands, strings, guitars, jazz, choir and a sneak-peek at the rock band for our School of Rock Musical being performed next term.
Our Year 11 Entertainment students ensured everything ran smoothly behind the scenes, alongside Mr. Casella and Mr. McKee with their own bands. We also appreciate Mrs. Rolet, Mr. Rolet, Ms. Bailey, and Mr. Cosentino for their efforts in presenting the ensembles at such a high standard. We look forward to the next opportunity to celebrate the talent within our school community.
In week 6, Year 11 students pushed their limits and embraced the challenge of the legendary Mudrun at Doyalson as part of their Life Ready course!
From the very first moment, students were plunging into waist-deep mud pits, scrambling up rope climbs, crawling through pitch-black tunnels, and hauling themselves over towering ladders. They tight rope walked across water, slid down water slides, and waded through thick slush that tested every step. Each obstacle brought its own test of nerve, strength, and determination.
The day was also about teamwork and perseverance. They cheered each other on, offered hands to those stuck in the mud, and worked together to get everyone across the line. By the end of the course, Year 11 was drenched, muddy, and exhausted, but more connected than ever. It was a day of resilience, laughter, and unforgettable memories that brought this fantastic year group even closer together.
In Week 9 we came together to celebrate Harmony Day, to remind us of the importance of inclusivity, respect, and belonging. At Cromer Campus, we are proud of our diverse school community. Our different cultures, languages, and traditions make us stronger and more connected. Harmony Day gave us a chance to appreciate these differences, break down barriers, and celebrate the unique backgrounds that each of us brings.
We ran a writing competition, held a special assembly in our COLA including a Pasifika dance item, and a celebration in our quad with musical items, busking, table tennis, art, inclusive games and a "Move it Mob Style" activity in the gym.
We continue to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and included. Because when we stand together in respect and understanding, we build a school and a world where everyone truly belongs.
Year 7 was introduced to the topic ‘How to Science’, - understanding what science is, what scientists do, what equipment scientists use, and how to conduct experiments safely. Most excitingly, students attained their Bunsen burner licenses, enabling them to perform more advanced scientific experiments. Students safely used scientific equipment to heat water. Rice grains were then added as it reached boiling point to display the convection current created in the water.
Moving up to Year 8, it has been all things energy, with students learning about the different types of energy, how energy can be transferred, and transformed. Year 8 researched the sources of energy in Australia and the efficiency of the community of Cromer in terms of their energy usage. Students have now gained a greater appreciation of the need to cut down our energy consumption and we hope they seek out more sustainable sources of energy for the future.
Year 9 has been learning about Health and Disease, an incredibly important topic, especially considering it's the five-year anniversary of the COVID-19 Pandemic lockdowns. Students have learnt about the types of diseases, how they can spread, and the body’s defenses against disease.
Year 10 students have been learning about DNA, Genetics, and Evolution through practical experiments extracting DNA from strawberries and then examined the DNA under microscopes - very impressive work!
Year 8 Tech Mandatory Textiles students have been designing and making beanies.
Year 8 Tech Mandatory Timber classes have built serving boards.
This year we introduced Year 8 Mini Major Work Elective classes. One of the classes have been working on cake decorating elements.
Stage 6 Hospitality classes have been learning about various cookery methods. They explored proving when baking Hot Cross Buns and poaching when cooking Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls.
