School Libraries Improvement Fund (SLIF) 2024-25 now open!

The SLIF fund had been transformational in supporting innovative projects that demonstrate impact against the strategic aims of Vibrant Libraries, Thriving Schools – A National Strategy for School Libraries in Scotland 2018-23. The 2024/25 fund will put a priority focus on project applications which support one of the following funding priorities:

·        Promoting literacy and numeracy, especially targeting 4-8-year-olds.

·        Information and media literacy

·        Mental health support

As with previous funding, the Scottish Library Information Council (SLIC) will be administering the Fund. Entries for this round should be sent to Caroline Messer (cmesser@eastlothian.gov.uk) by mid-day Monday, 2nd September (final entries to SLIC are due Wednesday, 4th September at 12 noon).

Advice and and support can be provided by your ASG's secondary librarian (contacts below). More information here.

Join East Lothian's 'Teachers as Readers' Group to enrich your Reading for Pleasure knowledge and practice

Reading Schools key areas: 1.2.3 Staff as readers; 1.2.4 Staff development; 1.2.5 Staff knowledge of contemporary literature

We welcome anyone committed to developing young people's desire, delight, and engagement as readers to join our reading group. Informal, friendly, and supportive, we welcome auxiliaries, librarians, teachers, and trainee teachers to join us and commit to attending all six CPD sessions.

We will be developing evidence-informed practice, widening our knowledge of YA literature and other texts, enriching RfP pedagogy and documenting the impact of young people as readers.

This is a great opportunity to network with colleagues, learn about developing a culture of Reading for Pleasure in your school, and can count towards key areas of the Reading Schools framework.

Introduction and Sessions 1-4 will be online using Google Meet and will be held 3.30-5pm on the listed dates. Session 5 will be at Preston Lodge High School library.
