Principles of Fair Student Assessment

Audience: K-12 Teachers

Facilitator: Tim Coates

Description: The Principles for Fair Student Assessment: Canada’s “Assessment Constitution”

In the 1990s educators from across Canada developed a document entitled Principles for Fair Student Assessment Practices for Education in Canada. The document serves as a kind of “assessment constitution” setting out the ground rules for classroom assessment practices from planning assessments to reporting assessment results.

In the thirty years since the document was developed there have been many changes to the assessment landscape. Your presenter has updated the document’s terminology and created an abridged version that will form the basis for the presentation.

This session offers participants the opportunity to examine their current assessment practices to see how well they align with established guidelines. Session participants will be encouraged to share their perspectives about assessment and complete a brief plan of ways to enhance assessment practices for the benefit of students.

Participants are expected to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions as the two sessions are linked.
