Dual Credit Local College Partnership Information

Dual Credit Admission Details

Students enrolling in a dual credit course must meet the following college entrance requirements:

1.) Completion of Local Partnering College's enrollment/admission steps and requirements.

2.) A qualifying score on a specified assessment for college readiness (TSI)

In addition, to the above requirements, any ResponsiveEd school may require students to meet campus-specific criteria for Dual Credit eligibility that is set by the Campus Director and approved by Regional Director.

Dual Credit Course Offerings

Which college courses can students take?

Students are only allowed to take courses that are on their home campuses approved crosswalk. The crosswalk is a list of college courses and their high school equivalent. The college courses that will be listed on a crosswalk are limited to college core curriculum & foreign language classes and approved college workforce courses. No developmental education or remedial courses allowed to be taken through a dual credit program.

If the student is enrolled in a course that is not on the approved crosswalk, the student will not be granted the credit at the school level. If the course is being taken to meet graduation requirements, the student may not be able to graduate. Questions regarding approved courses should be directed to the District Registrar or CCMR Coordinator.

What if my campus needs a Dual Credit Crosswalk?

ResponsiveEd has a District Approved Crosswalk that campuses who currently do not have a crosswalk can adopt.

Is possible to update an existing crosswalk to match courses that other area high schools take?

Yes. Each late spring semester, it is wise for a campus to review their campus dual credit crosswalk to ensure that the college course offerings still align with current high school course equivalent TEKS. The best course of action is to look at the approved crosswalks for the local area public high schools/ ISDs and see which courses have been adopted or removed for the coming school year. Sometimes the college partner might also be able to provide a list of common or new dual credit course options. All campuses that are seeking update an existing crosswalk to reach out to their Regional Counselor for support.

College Credit Transfer

How are dual credit courses transferred for college credit?

When choosing which courses to take as dual credit, the best option for students is to choose courses that fit into the core curriculum of the college or university offering the dual credit program. Courses that fulfill the core curriculum of a public college or university are guaranteed to transfer to any other public college or university in Texas by state law. For additional dual credit courses, students should contact the college or university that they plan to attend to determine how that institution will grant credit for the course.

Awarding & Recording Dual Credit

How is credit awarded?

Credit may be given in a content area or as an elective to fulfill graduation requirements and to gain college credit. Credit for successfully completed college courses will be earned in one-half or one-unit increments. Students taking dual credit courses will receive the actual numerical score as weighted high school credit. The student will receive the actual numerical score, if such a score is awarded by the college instructor, or a numerical grade equivalency as follows:

A - 98% B - 88% C – 78% D-65% or 70%** F-50%

**See Updated Course Grade Conversion Memo

Dual Credit Cost

What are the costs involved in taking a course?

Students pay some expenses associated with taking college courses. These costs could include tuition and fees and will be in accordance with the cost-per-hour charges assessed by the school's partnering college. Student may also be asked to pay for the cost of college textbooks.

ResponsiveEd will pay the tuition for students to take one dual credit class for free and upon successful completion of that course ResponsiveEd will then pay for two dual credit classes per semester until graduation. Reach out your Regional Counselor or CCMR Coordinator for more information about what and how the district covers dual credit tuition.
