RES schools use MTSS to provide targeted support to any students who show a need for additional supports.
The goal of MTSS is to identify struggling students early and intervene quickly so students can catch up with their peers.
It focuses on the “whole child.” That means it supports academic growth, and many other areas such as behavior, social and emotional needs, language acquisition, and absenteeism.
Universal screening for all students early in each school year to quickly identify students that may benefit from additional instructional support
Strong Tier I Instruction to minimize misconceptions and avoid new learning gaps for all students
Integrated plans of targeted support that address students’ academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs with frequent progress monitoring
A schoolwide approach to student support, with teachers, counselors, administrators, other specialists and the student's family working as a team to assess students and plan interventions using data-informed decision-making
Professional development so staff can provide interventions and monitor progress effectively
