Señora Murillo is one of our school’s favorite Spanish teachers. She not only makes sure that students learn Spanish, but she also establishes a fun environment that makes students feel good about Spanish and wish to continue learning the language. Unfortunately, Señora is retiring this year, but we will always remember her as one of the best Spanish teachers to ever step foot in Menlo Park School history.
Señora Murillo was brought into teaching as a second job. She was originally an apartment manager. Before she started teaching, she had managed a total of 336 apartments! After some time though, she looked back onto her love of children and Spanish. The first job that came to her mind was being a Spanish teacher. Since then, for 29 years, she stuck with the decision and never returned. Eleven of those years were spent here, in Menlo.
Señora also had a very interesting childhood. She used to always travel, and of course, always have dogs! Some of her favorite memories were with her sister, too. Something that many people may not know about, is that she was also born in and has spent her whole life in New Jersey!
The way she savors her childhood memories, she also will never forget her experiences teaching, especially in Menlo Park. She says, “It’s fun when kids teach me things. When the kids say funny things, it always takes me by surprise.” These are just some of the ways she enjoys teaching more than any other job.
When Señora retires she already knows what she wants to do: she wants to work on the kids club on a cruise ship! She’d get to have fun with kids and go on leisurely cruises. When Señora retires, she will also spend more time with her hobbies which are cooking and reading.
Again, Señora Murillo was one of the best Spanish teachers we’ve had in this school. Wherever she goes, happiness, calmness, and peace follow. Let's give Señora Murillo a great thanks at the end of the year, for her legendary service throughout these last 11 years of Menlo Park School.
