Week of October 18, 2021
Principal's Message
Southeast Middle Cougar Families,
This week begins the 2nd nine weeks of the academic year. Report Cards will be sent home with students Tuesday, October 19, 2021. We are proud of our students who have found a way to stay focused on academics during continued pandemic adjustments and challenges. We have had great activities such as new cheer and dance teams, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, school picture day, and a Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness. This week we will have College Virtual Tours to promote college and career exposure, preparation, and access for all students. We appreciate our faculty and staff for all they do to help our students daily, working to creatively provide diverse, differentiated, safe and enriching classrooms. Faculty and parents do an amazing job together to support re-enforcing Cougar Pride – Perseverance, Respect, Intelligence, Determination, and Enthusiasm.
Thanks, parents for continuing to provide feedback on how we can serve families better at Southeast Middle. We have come so far in just nine weeks with a new administration and many new faculty members; however, after only one quarter, we still have many goals left to accomplish. Students are taking Interim assessments in English and Math classes to determine if they are mastering standards and where more remediation is needed. Parents can support by monitoring students grades and assignments in JParent as well as assuring students are bringing their materials daily and complete missed assignments online when they are absent. We also appreciate parents having conversations about character, positive behavior and following school rules. Partnering with us contributes to the overall performance of our school and we look forward to the ongoing support.
Upcoming Events : Football and Volleyball continue this month. 9th-grade football practice begins after school again Monday. See our website smsdataschool.com for all schedules, times, and information about sports, fees, or student events. Open House presentations are still available on the website. Orion Labs is still testing COVID–19 each Thursday, 7:00 am – 7:30 am. Register your student using the COVID-19 link. Remember to keep your student home if they have any symptoms, and make sure students are wearing a mask when they leave for school daily. We provide bottle water due to COVID protocol, but we have filling stations if your student needs to get water daily, so you may provide an empty water container daily if they need to get water from the filling station for hydration. All our procedures and protocol are for the safety of your students so thank you again for the support and engagement in the daily learning process. Call our office, email administration, or visit our website for any additional information. Our goal is to make every day “a great day to be a Cougar. “

ESTES ROCKET AMBASSADOR
Only 3 teachers out of 250 applicants were selected and we are the only middle school! Estes will provide the three schools with a prototype rocket, designed by Blue Origin and Jeff Bezos, to be tested by our students. We will be one of three schools in the country to do this. Once our data is collected, Estes will use the information to improve the rocket for world wide distribution.
