Week of March 7, 2022
Greetings SE Middle Families,
March has arrived and we have many events and activities planned for the month. Last week we acknowledged our Honor Students for the 2nd 9 weeks with a certificate and Honor Roll spirit t-shirt. We are so proud of our honor roll scholars and encourage all of the students to keep up the great work in the classroom. We need our families to save the dates and prepare our Cougars for a busy month. We have one month left in the 3rd nine weeks, and 30 instructional days left to prepare for LEAP testing, which begins April 25, 2022. Students’ focus, academic readiness, and behavior will be most important for our entire student population to improve our performance in every subject area. March is also “Mindfulness March”. Students will be sharing Mindful Moments during the morning announcements every morning focused on how we are mindful of treating ourselves and others. Our two areas for March are Cyberbullying Awareness and Staying SmokeFree. Thank you to parents for continuing your conversations at home on these two topics. Trends among teenagers are growing with misuse of cellphones for cyberbullying and experimenting with vaping and other unhealthy habits that target our students and leave them vulnerable to peer pressure. Mindfulness moments are provided by ICARE and an effort to encourage our students to make health choices. We also ask parents to help us in reminding students about dress code and cell phone policy in the student handbook/planner. School culture is safe and positive when everyone follows the rules and our classroom environments are conducive to learning. Thank you to our parents for all you do to support our efforts to continue our vision of Exposure, Preparation, and Access for our students to succeed in middle school, high school, college, career, and beyond.

Academic Focus and creating confidence in our students as they prepare for LEAP testing will be our #1 priority. The parent and teacher partnership, along with our students taking personal responsiblity for their learning and decision-making, will be the keys to success. Everyday continues to be a "Great Day to Be a Cougar." Happy March, and rememeber let's all be Mindful.

Only 3 teachers out of 250 applicants were selected and we are the only middle school! Estes will provide the three schools with a prototype rocket, designed by Blue Origin and Jeff Bezos, to be tested by our students. We will be one of three schools in the country to do this. Once our data is collected, Estes will use the information to improve the rocket for world wide distribution.
