BLIND CONTOUR DRAWING

Objective:

We will create blind contour drawings to help build our hand eye coordination and observational skills.

What is a blind contour drawing?

Blind contour drawing is a drawing exercise, where an artist draws the contour, or edge lines, of a subject without looking at their drawing, but only at their reference. For our purposes, we will also never pick up our pen. So officially we are creating continuous line blind contour drawings.

For your blind contour drawings I want you to do a minimum of 5. The first 3 will be drawn from life, your choices may be from photographs.

Each drawing gets it's very own page in your sketchbook....

4: Self Portrait

5: Your Choice

After creating your collection of blind contours, You will pick your favorite to develop into a more creative and finished artwork. If you need to create more than just the original 5- please do.

Point of the project:

I would like you to use ink (india or pen) to consider the VARIED thickness of Your Lines, and play with watercolor to create a finished distorted artwork.

Turning In Your Work:

1: turn the collection of blind contour drawings and the final artwork into a personal slideshow

2: Final artwork as an attachment (so I can have a copy of the image)

Timeline:

3 Days in class to create your Blind Contour Collection

2-3 Days in class to alter and manipulate one into something more creative and special.
