Once you have received your re-imaged laptop, you will need to restore the data from your Google Backup & Sync backup. To do so, follow the instructions below:
1. Open your Google Chrome browser from your computer's dock. Access your Google Drive account by opening Apps and selecting Drive.
Alternatively, type "drive.google.com" into the URL bar and log into your Google Drive account from there.
2. Navigate to your My Drive section of your Google Drive account. Select "New" in the top left-hand corner and create a new folder titled "Backup".
3. Navigate to the My Computers section of your Google Drive account. The location is listed on the left-hand side of your screen. Once here, open the folder located in this section - it should be titled either My Macbook Pro or My Macbook Air.
You should now see a number of folders titled Documents, Desktop, and Pictures, though there may be more depending on which folders you selected to be backed up while setting up Google Backup and Sync. Drag-and-drop these folders into the Backup folder you created in the previous step.
4. Now, open the Applications folder on your device and find Backup and Sync from Google. Double-click on Backup and Sync from Google and select "Open" when the pop-up window appears.
5. A second pop-up will appear for Backup and Sync. Select Get Started.
6. Sign in to your Google account as prompted by typing in your full College email address (e.g. smithj01@dow.catholic.edu.au) and selecting Next.
7. If prompted, sign in to CENet using your CENet username and password.
Please note that this username does not require your full email address.
8. Once the Google Account page appears, scroll to the bottom of the page and select Sign in with your browser instead.
9. A new tab/window will open on your web browser requesting that you log on to your College Gmail account. Please select your College email account from the list or type the full email address if it is not listed, and then select Next.
10. Select Allow to grant access to Backup & Sync from Google.
11. Select Got It in the Welcome to Backup and Sync window
12. Ensure none of the folders are selected. Once completed, select Next.
13. A second option will appear asking if you would like to sync your Google Drive to your computer. Select Got It
14. Select Sync My Drive to this computer, then select Sync only these folders. Untick Select All, and ensure that your Backup folder is the only folder ticked, then select OK in the bottom-right corner.
15. Once you select OK and finalise the process, your files will begin to re-download onto your device. You can find the re-downloaded files in your Finder window in a folder titled Google Drive, as demonstrated here:
Your files are now back onto your device! You can relocate these files back into your Documents, Desktop, Pictures, etc. folders at your discretion.
