BYODD

Mount Carmel Catholic College is committed to helping students develop up to date technology and communication skills, and as such we integrate technology into all learning and teaching areas to enhance learning experiences and outcomes, preparing students for their role in the digital world in which we live.

The College Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD) program stipulates the need for students to bring a device to school that meets or exceeds the minimum requirements provided by the the College (below). Whilst there is some choice and flexibility with the device, we have made the decision to place limitations of the type and specification of these devices to guarantee that we are able to effectively maintain and manage these devices at school, place safeguards on equity and commonality amongst students and ensure that teachers are able to plan lessons and learning experiences based on the knowledge and confidence that all students will be able to access materials applicable to their chosen area of study.

The following minimum specifications have been mandated by the College in order to ensure that students are equipped with laptops that provide the necessary compatibility, performance and reliability to function as a tool for learning:

·      Make/Model:  Apple MacBook Air/Pro (2021 or newer)

·      Storage: 128GB

·      Memory: 8GB RAM

·      Operating System: MacOS 13 Ventura (or newer)

·      Accessories: Hard plastic clip-on case

To view the full range of devices that are currently on the market that meet/exceed the minimum requirements above, please visit the Educom IT Portal, select Mount Carmel Catholic College and enter the password BYOD2018.

Please note that although Educom IT provide competitive education pricing for the College community, we encourage families to shop around for the best deal.

We also recommend that families purchase AppleCare+ warranty, which is an essential warranty that covers the device for up to three years from the date of purchase and includes repair of two accidental damage incidents. Repair of accidental damage is subject to a service fee (an excess payable based on the type of damage) that is dependent on the type of damage.

In the event that AppleCare+ is not purchased with the device, it may be worth considering the option of adding the device to your existing contents insurance.

Finally, it is imperative that a good quality hard plastic clip-on case is purchased and attached to the device at all times to reduce the risk of serious damage.
