To close the digital learning gap, we must make sure that students have access to technology and high-speed internet outside of school.
All guiding questions are aligned to the element criteria located in the Portfolio Guide.
Guiding questions:
How many day users does the campus have? What factors contribute to the number? If the number is high, what are your next steps?
How are the inventory data and data usage reports guiding campus-wide culture and next steps?
What systems do you have in place to support repairs and replacements? If none, how can you modify your systems?
Guiding questions:
How are parents, students, and teachers supported on a consistent basis on digital safety?

Student Digital Citizenship:
All students participate in digital citizenship lessons twice a month. These lessons include topics like cyber bullying, protecting personal information, digital/life balance, and so much more. Students watch videos in class made by the VILS Coach Rebecca Czerniak and then complete assignments using various digital programs. Teachers monitor students as they watch the videos and complete the activities. An example of a lesson is to the right.
Several lessons are created using Common Sense Digital Citizenship Lessons: https://www.commonsense.org/education/digital-citizenship/curriculum?grades=5,6,7,8&topic=media-balance--well-being
Students received videos and infographics about emailing through their Digital Citizenship Google Classroom. The video encourages students to send an email to their favorite teacher thanking them, and the infographics explain how students reply to emails and forward emails.
Teaching students about what Clickbait is and how to identify if a headline is the truth or Clickbait. Based on Common Sense 5th Grade Lesson Plan.
Guiding questions:
How is the student tech team serving in a leadership role on campus and supporting IT help tickets?
How has the student tech team supported teachers, students, and families? (students created videos, flyers, or mini sessions)
How are you increasing the capacity of your student tech team members?
Self Reflection on the Element: (Choose one: Emerging, Aligning, or Optimizing)
We are currently Aligning for the Element of Consistent Access.
Strengths: How did your campus exemplify illustrating this element?
In the beginning of the year, we started off very strong for students completing Digital Citizenship lessons in their classrooms. Students watched the videos in class and then completed a variety of assignments/activities in their Digital Citizenship Google Classroom. We also had a great Loaner program where loaner computers were available in every classroom so that students that forgot their computers or were getting a device fixed would still have devices in order to complete their classwork.
Next Steps: What could you have done differently to better align with this element?
Next year, I hope to. be able to teach some of the Digital Citizenship lesson in person rotating between the grade levels.
