A strong transformation plan unifies the vision for technology integration and device maintenance with the school improvement plan or goals for the year.
The artifacts on this page are evidence of established systems to communicate data regarding campus device management successes and concerns with teachers, families, and students.
"The Gator Gazette" is one way that we regularly share information with staff. There is also a family version with VILS information and initiatives are included weekly.
Does instruction reflect that teachers understand how different uses of technology support teaching and learning goals?
Understanding how technology usage supports teaching and learning goals is most evident in our veteran teachers. Newer staff are supported by the VILS coach and professional learning opportunities towards this understanding. Teachers at Akili regularly work to find best practices and regularly share templates.
How does the campus leadership team model and collaborate with each other to support campus goals?
Our principal, Jasmine Graves Black Clemons, regularly collaborates with District-Level IT, supports School-Level IT, and coaching. All three coaches across the network are in regular communication and collaborate on best practices and trends.
Are technology use policies well documented, understood by both students and teachers, and reinforced?
Yes, technology usage policies are well documented, understood, and periodically reinforced.
Culture Team and teaching staff are involved with helping to enforce the expectations and cultivate behaviors and attitudes that support device care and digital citizenship. Teachers check every morning for charged devices and participate in regular device audits.
Have VILS IT management practices been incorporated district-wide? Explain.
There are a few variations in some small procedural details, but largely, all VILS IT is managed the same way. All three schools in our network use similar auditing, use Securly.com, and meet regularly with district-wide IT to discuss troubleshooting or general housekeeping.
How did you derive your student-centered goals and action steps?
Our action steps are and have been aligned with the VILS PLP and school-wide goals for the year. These approaches are only modified if and when they align with desired VILS outcomes which are in step with our school values of preparing scholars to excel in rigorous high schools, succeed in college and strengthen their community-oriented character.
How did the teachers, students, and families contribute to your plan?
Teachers contribute to this plan by actively participating in professional development, one-to-one coaching sessions, trying new strategies, and sharing new ideas.
What is your progress on the action steps?
Even though we've had an extremely challenging year with several quarantines and a major Hurricane evacuation we are continuing to push to meet PLP objectives.
Have you had to modify or change your course of action (based on data)?
Our data has shown that we need to place a particular additional focus on materials management and the overall culture around the handling of technology this year. Reinforcing device norms and materials management has been paramount
